Ok my surgery was on Feb 5th and I am having problems having a BM. Is anyone else having this problem? I have only went one time since my surgery and I had to be admitted to the hospital for that. So they could get me going. My bowels seem to be working I have some gas. But nothing like everyone talks about. I'm on stool softner but still nothing. The first time I went 2 weeks before going to the ER in pain. Now its been 6 days. I feel like crap all the time. I was suppose to go back to work on wednesday but backed out because I feel so bad. Next question should I call my doctor tomorrow and tell them whats going on? Or should I just keep dealing with it myself? I thought I would try a fleets tonight, but thats what put me in the ER last time. I'm a little scared. Am I ever going to have a BM on my own again? Just wondering if anyone else is going through this? Charlotte

First of all, are you getting plenty of fluids? I had a similar problem and my surgeon told me it was okay to use Sodium Citrate. (You know that nasty tasting stuff in the little green bottle - don't get the cherry!) It worked!!! I feel for you. After battling IBS for years I never expected to deal with constipation. Now I make sure I take my Citrucel and get more than 64 oz of water each day. Hope you get to feeling better. {{HUGS}} Susan

I would definately call the surgeon and let him know what's going on. Did you inform him of the ER visit? Also, look at what you're eating and how much fluid your getting in. But call the doc and ask about it. And yes, BM become regular after a while.

I'm worried about you. This is not normal. BE your own advocate even when they "pooh-pooh" you (LOL) just tell them somethings up and you will find out what. MY surgeon would have had some tests done by now, well immediately upon hearing this I'm sure. Beth B. in CHattanooga
