Why Haven't I Lost More?

I have my 7/8 week appointment with my surgeon tomorrow and after getting on the scale this morning, found out I've only lost 47 pounds so far. Am I right on target or am I not losing fast enough? I'm getting discouraged. It seemed like the last month I was losing about 4-5 pounds a week, and it's taken me 2-3 weeks to get from 280 to 275. What's going on?

Alyssa, You are doing okay, just think back, when have you ever lost 47 #s in 2 months? Just keep doing what the DR tells you to do and you will be fine. Congratulations on getting those pounds off. Darlene

This is true. I am exercising 5 days a week from 30 to 60 minutes and drinking 64 ounces of water (2 liters) in addition to the 20 ounce isopure drink per day. Maybe I need to increase my water? Or could I be retaining water?

Keep in mind that your body is probably just adjusting... it takes time and you'll have more than plenty of stalls to drive you batty. Your body has gone from consuming probably over 2,000 calories to (I'm guessing) 500 calories. Your body thinks it is starving and will hold on to as much fat as possible..but it will eventually HAVE to let go of it. I've gone weeks without losing anything, I know its very trying on your patience. Everyone loses at different rates and it is never beneficial to compare yourself to others. I felt the same as you and was even given the impression by my doctor that I wasn't on track...but I just kept doing what I was doing, exercise helped too. One morning I woke up and didn't recognize myself... that is such a surreal moment! Yours will come too Have a great day! April

I think your doing amazing!!! I always compaired my weight loss to other people's and was dissatisfied... you can't do that though, everyones body is different!!! April's right your body is just being stubbern, and is going through an adjusting period, it'll start coming off again. Congrats on the 47 pounds, you rock!!!!

I dont remember how much I had lost at the 2 month mark... but I also didn't look at others and what was supposed to be normal. I think 47 pounds is doggone good, girl!! Congratulations!

At my 2 month mark I had lost 33 pounds. The way I look at it is, I was averaging more than 1/2 lb per DAY. I've been on diets where I only lost 1/2 lb per week. I'd say you are right on target. Just remember, you didn't put all of your weight on overnight and it's not going to come off overnight. You're doing great! You are getting your water and protein in. You are exercising. Just keep doing what you're doing. Actually, you are still recovering from surgery. Just give it time.

hon, you are doing great! I agree with what everyone else has said. keep an eye on your protein and make sure you are getting enough in (at least 60-80 for average person). Watch carb intake so you dont get the munchies. keep up the good work!

You are doing a phenominal job and you're obsessing, that's whats going on. It is normal to have periods of time when the weight just falls off then other times when it seems like the scale won't budge. My recommendation (and it is only my opinion but seemed to help me out) is to only get on a scale when you are at your doctors office. Once you are at least six months out, then I would say you can start weighing yourself at home but no more than once per week. And then try to be consistent about the time of day and what you're wearing when you weigh. Keep up the good work.
