Dr Spaw
He did my surgery 12 1/2 months ago. I felt comfortable with him the first time I met him at the seminar. My husband was very nervous about the surgery (supportive but nervous****il he met Dr. Spaw.
He took the time to answer all of my questions. He also asked me what my reasons were for my choice of surgery. He had explained all 3 types that he does in the seminar so I had gotten even more information there than I had gotten in my research. When I went to the seminar I was still undecided between the DS and RNY. In the question period after the presentation he answered some questions that helped me make my final decision.
I've had a couple of issues come up after surgery, a medication problem and a bout of constipation, he was available immediately to help.
He is also a huge cheerleader for all of his patients. At my one year appt. he took a picture of me with my "before" pants.
Also, Pam (his nurse) is wonderful! She is a WLS patient herself so she really understands where we are coming from.
We have a support group that meets the first Tuesday of the month. We meet at 5:30 in the MSC waiting room. Pam facilitates the group and brings in guest speakers on various subjects.
If you have any more questions, feel free to email me.

Pam,
I had surgery on January 29, 2007 and Dr. Spaw was my surgeon, I truly believe that God sent him to me. It took me five years to make my decision to have this surgery, during this time I researched several surgeons and Dr. Spaw ended up being the perfect fit for me. He is the type of surgeon that honestly cares and you are not just another patient, he wants to make a difference in your life, he truly listens to your every concern. The morning of my surgery, I was very nervous. Dr. Spaw knew that I was a Christian and asked if it would be okay to say a prayer in the surgical waiting area, I do not know about you, but I have never had a surgeon to lead a prayer over a patient in order to comfort them before surgery. This meant the world to both my husband and me. Another thing, he is wonderful with the family as well, I had a small picture of my son I carried into the surgery and had showed Dr. Spaw, briefly mentioning his name, but when Dr. Spaw came in the room that evening and when he saw my son, he called him by his name. This was very impressive and meant to me that my family meant something to him as well. These are just a few things I like about Dr. Spaw's personality, but professionally he is very informative and knows exactly what he is doing. This surgery has saved my life in more than one way, when Dr. Spaw did my surgery he saw something wrong with my liver and did a biopsy on it as well. If it had not been for his discovery, I would not have known and may have gone undiagnosed for years. Therefore, professionally Dr. Spaw is just as wonderful as he is personally. I believe he is very great, as well as his staff, I would recommend him very much, also if you would like to meet more of his patients, we have a support group meeting at 5:30 on March 6, 2007 at his office. Just one more thing, Baptist Hospital's nursing staff was wonderful as well, I could not have asked for better care after my surgery and everyone there spoke very highly of Dr. Spaw as well.
Any more questions feel free to ask!!
