I have lost a total of 180 lbs. I NEED a LBL. I have BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Does anyone know if that Ins will cover a LBL? I have back pain and just about every week I have a ra****s hard to excerice. Its hard to walk and stay balanced, (the skin on my legs, butt, and belly seems to move to much). I'm having my Breasts done, ONLY cause I had breast cancer and Ins has to cover those. Besides back pain and rashes what other problems does the extra skin cause you? Has Insurance payed for a lower body lift? Thank you, Karen

I have BCBS of TN PPO. I did a little research and "reconstructive" surgery is covered if medical necessity can be proven. Here is a link you might find useful: http://www.bcbst.com/mpmanual/Lipectomy.htm But, from what I understand, insurance companies often deny these types of surgeries. Good luck!

Karen, a friend of mine had to have her skin removed from around her back and belly because of the rash and moisture would gather under the folds, and the skin was very close to being infected. She documented with pictures of the problems on her skin, and her insurance did pay for it, becuase it was a medical necessity, they told her the pictures did the trick for her case. Take all your concerns to your PCP, and Ask your him or her to also write a letter just as they did for the wls, about the skin, your back problems and how it causes a problem for your balance and mobility.. good luck...
