Dr. Boyce or Dr. Weaver

Has anyone had Dr. Boyce in Knoxville or Dr. Weaver in Memphis for lap-band surgery? I was going to be banded by Dr. Olsen in Nashville, but found out that he wasn't covered by my insurance company. Dr. Boyce and Dr. Weaver are the only surgeons in Tennessee that are covered.

Boyce has a lap-band support group - see http://www.parkwestcwlc.com/supportgroups.shtml. If you're serious about being banded, I'd go to one of the group meetings and ask the people there about their experiences. I know a few of his RNY patients, but don't know any lap-banders - his main hospital is about 5 miles from my house. Sorry. Brian

Hi Lauren, I can tell you this much, Dr. Boyce charges $3000.00 up front for his fee, and life time maintenence. I know that's what he charges for his gastric patients, but I don't know if he charges that for lap banders. It's worth checking into. What type of insurance do you have? Kathy

Hi Lauren, I know of Dr. Weaver in Memphis. I friend of mine had the RNY surgery thru Dr. Weaver's office and she has had nothing but wonderful things to say about her. I am not familiar with any of the doctor's in the Nashville area but most of the people on this site is from that area. Lisa

I know I'm a little late, but Dr. Weaver is the BEST!!! She's the most caring and kind person I've met, for a doctor. I had my Lap Rouen Y Jul 31, 2006 and to date have lost 82lbs. Just went for my 6 month check up the other day. She does both the lap band and the type surgery I had. The entire staff is GREAT! The nutritionist Ginger has left but there's a new lady starting this week. That's the only "upfront" money I had to pay was the $350 for the Nutrition classes. You need to come to one of the Support Groups or seminars. Our support group meets the 2nds Weds of the month at 7:30 at the St Francis Auditorium (St Catherine Room). Good Luck to you!!

Well, everyone, I decided to go with Dr. McGrath-Weaver. I feel that she is a lot more experienced with lap-bands than Dr. Boyce is, so I feel more comfortable with her as my surgeon. My only regret is that I am not closer to Memphis. I currently live about 6-7 hours away.
