With your chronic constipation, the DS is probably the ideal surgery for you. I had the opposite situation due to IBS and am now enjoying life again thanks to the effects of my surgery. Isn't it funny how a WLS can also help with these other problems?! Susan

Amen Susan on the opposite problem lol. I have had chronic diarrhea ever since I had my gall bladder taken out last year and now after rny I'M REGULAR!! It's a real blessing even if I didn't lose weight lol. Janie

It's wonderful! One of my friends had the RNY several years ago and she was just delighted that it cured her reflux! Matter of fact, she's a nurse here in TN. I wonder if she's on this board at all? I've been kind of looking to see if I saw anybody familiar.. She and another nurse online friend in Las Vegas have had the perfect post-op course, losing lots and lots of weight and the skin almost miraculously shrinking back. Neither of them has had to have any skin removed or tightened! I'm not deluding myself into thinking that could happen to me. Love Dennie

Um...constipation is actually a common side effect of RNY...hate to tell ya, but all you have to do is read the main board on a regular basis to see that is the truth. Nancy

The "DS" surgery your surgeon was talking about 20 years ago is not the same procedure they do today. That surgery did have problems, and I don't know of anyone who still does that one. Today's DS has been shown to be the most effective for weight loss, the best for keeping lost weight off, and it has a 98% "cure" rate for Type 2 Diabetes. Those things combined with the fact that DSers eat much more normally makes it a much better procedure.
