I need a hug!
I've mentioned on here before that I work in Human Resources. Well, we have an employee who has been on leave for a medical problem and yesterday we had a campus wide email letting us know he has bone cancer. Today his SIL came by to pick up some more papers for Long Term Disability and I asked about his FIL. He told me the cancer has spread throughout his body and they are going to send him home and make him comfortable. They have told the family he has anywhere from a month to 3 months at the most.
Y'all, this has completely torn me up. All I can think of is his poor wife. I cannot imagine what she is going through right now knowing she is losing her husband of almost 40 years.
I've been working on getting his LTD expedited and now I have to check into starting his accelerated death benefit. At least I was able to reassure the family that he does have life insurance.
He is one of those men who show the world a gruff persona but is really a softy. He has always been so sweet to me, joking & teasing but always respectful. I can't imagine this campus without him.
Days like this I don't like my job very much.

Susan, how hard for you and for that poor man and his family...but how blessed he is to have people who genuinely care for him. How many of us can say that our coworkers not only just tolerate us at times, but really, truly care about us? That is such a wonderful thing. I feel so badly for what this man's loved ones are going through, but what a testament to a life to have such support! God Bless you and everyone who cares for this man!
