I saw my brother but he didn't see me!
When hubby and I went to lunch yesterday I went in to get our name on the list while he parked. Well, they seated me right away so I'm watching the door for him. Who should walk in but my brother who I rarely see even though we live just a couple of miles from each other. (We are not close as he is very difficult to be around at times)
I tried catching his eye but he never looked my way so I got up to go say hi. It would have been out of the question to not say something especially since he walked into the restaurant with my husband.
When I walked up to him I said hi and it took him a couple of seconds to register who I was. His jaw dropped!!!!!!!!!!!! He hugged me and said "You've lost quite a bit of weight! How are you doing it?" I told him about the surgery and how long ago I had it. He said, "Oh yeah, I think I remember Mom saying something about it."
Like I said, we are not close. But, he is my brother.
Anyway ... the look on his face was PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This brother was always skinny when we were kids and he always made fun of me because I wasn't boney. I wasn't a fat child, I was a very healthy weight, but my family always told me I was fat.
It just goes to prove - You can pick your friends. You can pick your nose. But you can't pick your family.
Susan

What a great story! Are you sure you and I dont have the same brother??? I had a day about 2 years ago when my 40something brother told me how fat I was....Talk about hurting someones feelings???? He is huge now with health issues like diabetes and such....Lets see what he has to say when I am back to being his LITTLE sister!!! HEHEHEHE
Hi Susan, I'm not close to my brother either. There's 13 yrs between us. He, his wife Carrie, and three children live in Lavergne as does my oldest son, they're about 5 miles away. They did run two Curves but recently sold them. We haven't seen each other since our family reunion in June 05. I was severe obese, in a power wheelchair, and no teeth.
Oct. 28, my parents came down from West Virginia, both my sons and 2 yr grandson was given a surprise party by my daughter-n-love (she hates to be called daughter-n-law, so does my sister-n-law) So Mom and I call them our daughters-n-love. Talk about a real shocker to them. I was slender, on my feet walking, and had my teeth in. At first they didn't recognize me. Love that part. Makes me feel so great about myself. I had a pair of slacks on with my shirt tucked in. That was a first for me tucking in my shirt.
Do y'all still find you want to wear your shirt out to cover up the weight? I do, but that day for some reason, I wanted it tucked in, but as usual, something got on the shirt, it had 5 little fingers on it, so I think my 2 yr old grandson put his little hand on me. I went and put on a pull over sweater and that helped even with the night air on me. It was a lot of fun. There were those that hadn't seen me since last November at a wedding I attended, and they didn't recognize me at all either because I hadn't had my surgery yet.
Two months to go until I see the plastic surgeon at the VA hospital on Jan. 8. The next day is my 1 yr anniversary.
Even if we aren't close to our siblings, it's always great to just see them, the look on their faces makes things inside so worth it. I remember my brother laughing when I would get a kidney stone, he's not laughing anymore. He fell in Burger King from one. They're harder to pass on a man then a woman. I have had one blasted, 10 removed, 1 passed (just recently) and one still in my left kidney. It also will have to be blasted. It can't pass and right now it's just attached to the kidney wall for 3 years.
So when you see your brother, just speak to him, give him a hug, and let him know you love him. He's probably very insecure now with you looking so great and he's the one putting on the weight.
Well, my friend, I need to take the night pills and some more pain pills, they're wearing off and it hurts having to use my left arm now. Dr. says no lifting over 20 lbs, I can't lift over 5 pounds. Even trying to lift my 4 yr grandson, forget it. My 2 yr was too heavy for me to live. Just taking out a gallon of tea or milk is difficult. Have a great day tomorrow, love ya, Kathy
Hey Susan, that is so cool! I am close to both my brothers but I understand what you mean by one being difficult to be around. I have a younger brother who, like I said, I am close to, but he is still hard to be around and not many outside of my family, or inside of my family come to think about it, can handle him in large doses, lOl! But to not even be recognized????!!!! That had to have been awesome!
