Hi Fiona, if you want to learn about the lap-band ..you must go to the lap-band forum.. almost everyone on these regular boards have had an RNY... lap-band is a newer weight loss surgery and getting more popular every day, but only been in the USA about 6 years now .. go to forums at top of this page run your mouse over that word and you will seee lap-band you will love this forum lots of friendly, helpful people who have had or will be having lap-band and many of our problems are different than RNY patients.. I am now almost 2 weeks post op and I have never had any real pain gas or nausea and have lost 12 pounds post up .. but of course I did feel sore in my tummy area for a couple of days.. anyway welcome !!! Couldn't resist posting to another Tidwell. I found out today I will be having a Lap Band. I went to the seminal at Centennial. Dr Houston will be doing my surgery on Nov 6th at Centennial Womens Hosp. I just found out today that I would be lap band. I had to have Upper GI and EGD to check out my stomach and esophogus. But everything looked okay except of a little irritation in my stomach. They took a sample to culture, I'll know more tomorrow. My advice is to read, and read and search and read some more. You can watch real Lap Band Surgery and RNY Lap Surgery on Medlineplus.com Those video's answer most of your questions.

I never did watch the actual surgery even though when you go to the lap-band forum on the left side of the screen, you can watch it anytime you wish.. all the infomation is there, even actual surgery if you wish to watch it.. on the lap-band forum they discuss many many things they do not actually prepare you forwhen you get ready for and after surgery I have had many surgeries and would not like watching any of them , including having a huge tumor removed from my spine .. but, that is just me ..IF I actually saw what they were doing to me ,might just scare me so bad my blood pressure and attitude would certainly change and I have to say this surgery was the easiest I ever had and went home the next morning too! Of course I did look at books and charts and was well aware of what the the procedure was ... and it was also explained to me by my Surgeon who by the way is the best.. Dr David DYER .. I have had 2 surgeries by Dr Dyer and have been in Centennial Hosptial 2 different times and was treated well and well taken care of ..excellent hospital and excellent surgeon too!!
