I'm home. Still feel awful, but I'm here
Dr. Houston treated me for acute dehydration, administering several fluid bags. However, it did not do a thing for the dizziness. He came in about 2:30 to 3:00 today and we talked for a while, and I told him I'd like to go home. He really wasn't sure about the dizziness. Well I started getting extremely agitated, then broke down crying (ok, I broke down 3 times). Then I realized what it probably was causing the dizziness. He told me last week I could stop the Lexapro that I took and I didn't know it had to be tapered off. So thank goodness for the internet. I called my primary care physician who verified this was probably the reason for the dizziness. I'm back on it again and so please pray that it kicks in soon, getting rid of this terrible dizziness. It could have also caused the dehydration and nausea also but not sure...
Thanks to everyone who sent messages. I appreciate it very much.
I am glad you are home, hope you start feeling better soon. Wow. I have just learned something about Lexapro. I too am taking it and having surgery 11/6. I will see my Regular Dr. 11/1 so I will be sure to ask the question about my drugs. Your problem may have just saved me a problem too. Thank you, Thank you. Please rest and drink drink drink.
Melinda I hope you get to feel better soon !! I am suprised the Dr who started you on Lexapro did not tell you about haveing to be weaned off . Mine almost preaches it LOL. I did have my lexapro switch over to liquid bc the pills are so very bitter when crushed . I have been able to be able to cut my welbutrin down but have not talked about getting of the lex ..stress level here is too high to be playing around with reduceing to much of those meds Hope you feel better

Hi Melanie, I am so sorry you had to go thru all this. I do understand about being constantly sick and can't keep things down. I spent the first 4 months in and out of the hospital due to being so sick and dehyrated. I still get that way, but now we know it was the chemo that was depleting my potassium. Now I get blood work done every week just to be safe. Plus I get a copy everytime. This way I can monitor it better then several Dr.'s treating me and not letting the other Dr.'s know about the bloodwork.
I also appreciated Mike letting us know what was going on. Nice roommate you have. Does he have any brothers, or uncles in my age bracket? I'm am glad you are home. If you need anything don't hesitate in asking. We're all here for you, just reach out and let us know.
Hope to see you again soon, maybe over the holidays in December, since I won't be going to NC for the New Years celebration with my ex male friend. So I may stay longer then planned, or come several days earlier. You take it easy and get better, keep taking your fluids.
May God be with you and to heal you, love you, Kathy
What?! I take a day away from the board and you wind up in the hospital?!
I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad but I'm glad your doctor got right on it. And I'll be praying that your med kicks in real soon so you can really start to feel better.
I'll bet the dizziness did lead to the nausea and dehydration. It's hard to think about putting anything in your stomach when the room is spinning.
Feel better sweetie.
Susan

I had similar dizziness back in November when my Wellbutrin med started getting out of my system. If you do a search under "Lexapro, side effects, withdrawal" there are some interesting stories. I know some may seem crazy but let me tell you... it describes how it feels. I would have been afraid to explain it that way to the doctor; he might have thought I needed to be in another hospital... like the psych hospital! But it leaves these sensations as if someone has flipped some kind of electrical switch off and on and you get this really fast zzzzutttt sensation which feels like dizziness, light headedness, zappy sensation. Well now that you all know I am crazy.. haha
But seriously, that anti depressant stuff is nothing to mess around with. If you need to, ask your doctor a lot of questions of how to taper off it. I think I need to continue since I had the crying outbursts.
