I am trying to figure if I qualify for a Lap procedure. I am 5'2" 205 BMI around 37-38. I have lots of other problems, high blood pressure, GERD, knee problems, allergies and breathing problems etc. etc. I don't want to waste my time and get my hopes up for nothing. I have lost weight on every kind of plan out there but regain plus. I am 58 and this has been going on since I was 23. I have never been a normal weight woman. Has anyone experienced a low BMI and still get approved or less than 100 lbs. Stress is a big problem for me and I don't want to get tied up with an insurance company and just end up being 20 pounds fatter and get no where. I have Blue Cross. ANYONE?

I think BC has a minimum BMI of 40 or 41 unless you have significant co-morbidities. Have you called and just asked anyone there? They were very helpful to me when I was seeking information pre-op. Don't get discouraged. THere are ways to make it happen.

Okay I got up the guts(LOL) to call BCBS. My policy excludes WLS. So that is out for me. Has any done it self pay?

Where are you planning on having your lap band? in Nashville?? Centennial hospital has 3 excellent well experienced surgeons that do all the weight loss procedures I havr Dr David Dyer who is an acclaimed surgeon office #615 342 5830 he is also kind gentle andwellmannered. just call and ask Joanna or Robin about your BMI and the lap band It is much less invasive and easier on our older systems and is less healing time I am 62 years old /also go to lap band forum and find out more about the lap band
