Alittle Depressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Tina,
It is normal to be scared before surgery!!! I didn't think I would be, I thought that I was completely cool, but as I am sitting there in my gown waiting and waiting, I swear I was about half a thought from jumping up and leaving!!!! I got through it, and you will too. Everyone has felt how we felt to some degree, it's to be expected!!! But just think of what will come from your surgery. I promise when you look back at it Sep. 12th will be one of the best days of your life, a tool to a whole new you. Relax, get some rest, and put everything in god's hands, you'll do great!!!

You just have pre-surgery jitters. I think it happens to each of us.
It might help you to write down the pros and cons of having the surgery versus not having it and see which list is longer. I think once you see in black & white what you have to gain by having the surgery (improved health, longer life, being able to move, wearing cute clothes, etc.) it will reinforce your decision to go through with the surgery and help with the nerves.
Just keep your eyes on the goal and you will get through this. I'm sure everything is going to go just fine and afterwards you will wonder what you were so nervous about.
As far as the IV in your neck, my anesthesiologist was able to get a good enough vein in my arm that I didn't have the one in my neck. A good anesthesiologist will talk you through the procedure and help you relax. I had to have a nerve block inserted into my neck for shoulder surgery a couple of years ago so I have experienced the IV in the neck. I was very nervous about it but the anesth. doc talked me right through it so I wasn't as scared. He even had me laughing as my arm started flopping around just like he had warned me would probably happen.
Your day will be here very soon and you can then join us on the loser's bench.

Hey Tina, I had a central line inserted by my surgeon and the drug Dr. was right there ready to put me asleep. I have had so many surgeries that I knew I was in safe hands. God was with me. Once my Dr. got the IV ready the next thing I know I'm in my room. My veins aren't strong enough for IV's. I know you will be fine. Sara was afraid of beng put to sleep as she had never had any surgeries and she over came her fear. I know this is just pre-surgery jitters. A lot of surgeons will do a central line, and I'll be honest it does hurt at first but that's all you'll remember until you are back in your room. Just relax, have a fun week, and don't worry about the IV. You deserve some happiness and you are going to be having more then you ever thought possible.
Remember we are all here rooting for you and you are in our prayers. Feel free to vent, or let us know when you are down, want to cry, or laugh. That's what we are here for.
May God travel with you on this new and exciting journey. Love Kathy
Tina I understand how you feel I am not looking forward to that myself . I am haveing my Surg on the 7th and am on day 3 of the liquid diet .. Happy happy joy joy . I don't eat sugered jello koolaide or popcicles so thats cut my food intake down some . We both will do great !! If you are really nearvious about haveing the IV talk to the Dr about haveing them give you a sedative pre surg .. Some places do that to keep anxiaty down as a standard anyway ..
Hang in there

Hey there Tina, I have heard that there are many people who have second thoughts about having this surgery; I didn't have them until recently.(after surgery, because I am constantly feeling like crap) As far as the IV, I know many surgeons do not have a neck line put in but I know that Dr. Dyer does have this done.(he is my surgeon, also) Please do not be scared of having this put in I can tell you step by step of they do.
1.in the AM. you will submit a urine sample
2.They will bring you back to get undressed and a hospital gown will be put on, your family will then be brought in.
3.You will be given some medication(I forget what it is, but this will be your LAST SIP of water, given in one of those medication cups)
4.they will get some info. into the computer.
5.They will wheel you into the pre surgery waiting area where you will meet the anestesiologist(sp?), he will answer any ?'s you may have, he will give you an injection that they call the "I don't care" medication. Which is really true.
6.Dr. Dyer will then come in & ask if you have any ?'s and ask how you are feeling.
7.Then they will wheel you into the OR & have you get onto the Oper. table & I was OUT! That is all that I remember.
Therefore when the IV is put into your neck you will be knocked out & will NOT feel a thing. If you have any ?'s feel free to ask away.
Hi Tina,
I was terrified the morning of my surgery. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to get up and walk out. But the thought of what my life would be like if I didn't have the surgery kept me from doing that. When they put the IV in my neck, I didn't feel a thing. They numbed the area they were working on before they did any of my IV's so all I remember of them is a tiny little ***** If you are really scared tell them, they can probably give you something to calm you down before they start.
Good luck!
-Maria
