A Couple of Questions???

I was wondering if anyone else has had to take the medication ACTIGALL after having surgery. Because I am currently on this and have to be for 6 months for gall-stones. I am taking the generic version which is a capsule and we have to open it and take only the powder and I am having a heck of a time mixing this with something and being able to keep it down. The taste of it just gets me and its hard to get it down and keep it down. Any suggestions would be great. So far I've tried mixing it with Jello and Broth but nothing has worked yet. And they Second question is, Is it normal to go a few days between bowel movements when your still on a liquid diet? I haven't had one since Thursday and it's starting to worry me. I'm urinating normally but just no bowel movement anyone know what might be causing this or am i just worrying for nothing? Thanks for any information. Larry

Hi Larry, I don't know anything about your medication, but I can tell you , bowel movements are unpredictable for the first weeks.....don't worry that will work itself out...no pun intended. Billie

Hey Larry, I have the same form of actigall. I just bust open the capsule, dump the powder on my tongue and sip water with it. Of course, during this, I'm holding my breath so I can't really taste it lol. My bowel situation was similar to yours...I think I went about a week after surgery before I had a movement. When it does happen. Be prepared though...its liquid and STINKY! Are you drinking the Isopure liquid drinks or have you moved on to the EAS drinks? April

Thanks Billie and April for the information. And yes April I'm still on my Isopure drinks and I will be moving on to the EAS drinks next wednesday. I've already had that first big bowel movement since being home and your right its pure liquid and stinks like crazy. But since then I've only had a couple and none at all since Thursday. I was just worried that something might be wrong. This is the first major surgery I've ever had so I didn't know what to expect coming home from the hospital. No matter how much you research and talk to people about it for some reason it still shocks you as to what its actually going to feel like. Well again thanks for the information. And April your a brave person if you can take that powder with just a sip of water lol. Larry

Hi Larry, I don't have a gallbladder so I'm not help there. My first bowel movement was about 2-3 weeks after surgery. Now it's about once a week. I need to get some stool softners as it's painful to have a bowell movement. I would love to have some loose bowels about now. But no suck luck. Just take it in stride, they will happen when their ready. Since you are probably still on liquids to pureed foods, you may have them or not. Best of luck, Kathy
