Topic: RE: My Mothers Haveing Weight Loss Surgry What Do I Do!
What did you want to know about it? I remember when my mom had WLS and I was kind of scared/confused too. I actually just had it too though, so now I can really understand what she was going through and I wish I could have been there for her more. You can send me a personal message if you'd like to talk about it, and I could give you my screen name there (I just don't want to put it in the forum) to discuss whatever questions you have.

My Mothers Haveing Weight Loss Surgry And I Really Don't Understand It HELP!
Topic: RE: Banded teens?
I'm not near Houston, but this site would be great for your teen to come on. This Teen WLS forum, and the Lap-Band forum is great. I'm in the process of getting banding in April/May. I wish her the best!
Topic: Banded teens?
Are there any teens in or near Houston who are banded? My 15 year old daughter is getting banded this summer and could use some other teens to talk to about surgery and life after being banded.
Thanks,
Dana
Topic: RE: QUESTION FOR TEENS
The Rny is so drastic for a young person. Have you looked into the Lap Band ? My granddaughter had it done in August at 16. Her insurance would not approve it until she was 18, by then she would have been twice as big, so we took her to Dr. Kuri in Mexico. The doctor is wonderful and the hospital is brand new and spotless. The care was wonderful. The price is about half what it is in the states.
I have had the lap band done also ( here in the states). It has been a yearand I have lost 95 pounds. I would have never had the RNY, I didn't want anything rearranged.
Good Luck

Good for you that you are having this surgery! I wish I would have done it when I was your age! I would have saved myself those teenage years that I feel I was robbed of!

I just turned 22 so I guess I don't really belong here, but I'm opting for the band and I hope you have a change of heart too. From what I understand the band is more effective in long term weight loss. There is no problem of your stomache restreching and you gaining it all back, as you can simply tighten the band. You can also have the band let out for special occasions when you want to eat. In addition to that, your body gets ALL nutrients you eat and you wont be stuck taking vitamins for life like with the RNY, AND the death rate is much lower. It's 1/2000 as oppose to 1/100. You're just a teen and have your whole life ahead of you. Even though lapband is a slower loss, you will still be able to partake in food related activities in the rest of your "growing up years" through college and all that partying. Not all of it, but some, and you will still be losing, without dumping syndroms either. Good luck!

It was a lot to take in when I first started looking into both surgeries. I decided on RNY because the lap just seemed too 'temporary' to me. Maybe temporary isn't the word for it, but I didn't feel comfortable knowing I would have a port inside my stomach and would have to go for regular adjustments. It's also a slightly newer procedure and there wasn't much info on long term effects of having the port inside of you for life. Obviously there is much more to it...but those were the deciding factors for me.
I'm 19 having surgery on May 1st...send me a message if you wanna chat!

Hi! I'm 18, and away at college, and I had RNY over winter break in December. If you want to talk about stuff, like making the decision of which surgery to have, the complications with being away at school while dealing with it, etc., just let me know. Send me a personal message on here and I'd be happy to talk to you about it on AIM or something. Good luck!
