I am thrilled to find this place.
My name is Ashlee and, as the thread title states, I'm 17 years old. I decided about eight months ago to start the process of having weight loss surgery. Boom! Eight months later, I am two months post-op and down 62 pounds! It's a great feeling.
I tried like mad to find a place where teens came... well, teens who had had WLS, that is.
I got really frustrated, actually, because it felt like I looked and looked and couldn't find anything. And it's been kind of hard, not having any support. I mean, don't get me wrong, my parents fully support me and my dad had Lap RNY four years ago this July, but I think a lot of the time it can be different for adults. They ate pre-op for different reasons, were stressed by different things and post-op they deal with different surroundings and environments than us.
Anywho, I'm glad I found this place! It'll be awesome to meet kids like me. If any of you would like to, you can email me at: [email protected]
Hey Meghan! My name's Ashlee. I'm 17, and I had Lap RNY Bypass, not the Lap-Band. Once you start talking with surgeons, they'll advise you on the best choice for you, personally. Myself, I'm not too big on the Lap-Band for a few reasons, but a lot depends on your weight, BMI, and health history. It's all up to the surgeon, really, and what he/she thinks will be the best fit for you. The immediate aftermath of the surgery is, of course, pain. Duh, it's surgery. lol. After that, though, you really have to adjust to the fact that you can't eat like you once did. A lot of foods are off limits for a looong time, and it can be kinda hard to watch your friends gorge themselves on Doritos and Mountain Dew while you're stuck with a protein drink! Don't let the food aspect discourage you, though. Once you start losing weight, it ALL becomes worth it. Especially when people do the whole "Oh you look so good!" Haha. That's the best part. And it makes anything you go through to get there worth it.
