Hey There, It's good to have another teen. I am also playing the waitng game with my insurance. I am 18. I have been wanting to have gastric bypass since I was 16. I went to Duke hospital and they wouldnt because of my age. I acutally found a doctor in VA ((I live in NC)) that was willing to do it, but my insurance would not approve it. They said for different reasons, but I know it was my age because all the reasons they gave me didnt apply. I am also planning on having Roux-en-Y. I saw my doctor Friday and  now it is all waiting on the insurance. I wish you all the luck. Keep us posted.  I hope you have a wondeful and blessed day!!!

Cool! We have another WLS teen. What surgery type do you plan on having? That would help more people be able to answer your question.

Thanks for the thought, but i am doing this for myself. I can't think of anything else that would work better. He isn't pushing me into this, just controlling every other aspect of my life. And good luck with your son.

HI Crystal, I hope that this is something that you want.  It has to be.  Please do not do it because your father wants you to have it.  It has to be because YOU want it. You can see my son's story.  His name is Nigel.  He is 14 years old, and he had the RnY on July 20th.  But he has been wanting the surgery since he was 11 or 12 years old.  It took us 2 years to get the insurance approval. NOw with that said....I can't beleive how happy he is.  It is great when I see people so young have this oppertunity that I never had at your age.  We are a theater, vocal, and film family, so I understand what this means to you. I wish you all the best.  I would say that you need to follow the post-op diet to the T.  And you young uns heal so fast! Good luck to you!

COngratulations first off. Try making icy cold protien smoothies.  Low carb, high protien.  Lots of ice, bananas, strawberries. Try eating watermelon to eat something crunchy. You have to keep trying.  I think what is most important of all is for you to water in.  The light-headness is not good, and the next step is fainting and/or a trip to the ER for dehydration. Just keep trying everything.  And you are still healing.  Try a bowl of cream of wheat, or oatmeal.  Nice hot cerial with a little splenda on it. Unsweetened apple sause. Try mazzarella string cheese, and thinly sliced deli meats.
