I NEVER REALLY THOUGHT SO MUCH ABOUT SURGERY TO JUST A BIT OF TIME BACK. I'VE TRIED NUMEROUS DIETS BUT NONE OF THEM REALLY SEEM TO WORK, WELL THEY WORK FOR A LITTLE WHILE BUT I ALWAYS SEEM TO GAIN THE WEIGHT BACK! I DONT HAVE ANY MAJOR HEALTH PROBLEMS YET THANK GOD, BUT I KNOW I AM AT HIGH RISK OF GETTIN HEALTH PROBLEMS, IM NOT REALLY SURE HOW TO GET STARTED ON EVEN STARTING A PROCESS OF SURGERY BUT IF ANYONE CAN HELP WITH A LITTLE INFO OR ADVISE I WOULD REALLY APPRICIATE IT!!!

I completely understand where you are coming from. I dont think it is a good idea for young people to have it unless there is no where else around it. I have been in the process of having my surgery for 3 years. I have been WAY overweight all my life. I have so many health problems, that I have been on a diet since I was in 5th grade. Every diet you could think of, with no luck. Now, having to already been through 3 knee surgeries, I finally got my gastric bypass November 20th. I think no matter what age you are, WLS should be the last resort. It was my last resort so I took it!

I am not judging anyone who has allowed their children to undergo WLS, but it seems shocking to me.I have a thirteen year old daughter who is obese, and I had GBS almost five years ago.I don't know if I could allow her to do something like this.I honestly, want to exhaust every other option for her.WLS is so severe and seems scary to have a child who isn't even done going through physical and hormonal growth to have such a serious procedure.Maybe I don't know enough about the advancements made as of late.I really have to encourage anyone in their teens to do everything possible to lose weight before they consider surgery.I know firsthand how it feels to spend these years of your life being heavy, it can be really awful. But, really, really try to do it the old fashioned way first, for your safety.

Tiffany, Well I am also 18 and I had my RNY on November 20th. I have many health problems including POS too. If its something that you think you need I would look into it. I could never loose weight any other way, and my health was getting so bad I didn't have anything else I could do. I think its great that your mom has had it because you will know everything about it first hand. I would really talk to your mom and doctor about it. Good luck! I'm here if ya wanna chat or if you have any questions!

Well, I'm Tiffany I'm 18 years old. I'm thinking about getting the RNY. My mom just recently had the surgery about a month ago, and she's doing great with it and everything. I'm not really sure what i should do, I have POS and a little depressed lately about my wieght as i see my mom lose rapidly. What should I do? Any comments or suggest. Let me know.

My neice is such a beautiful young girl and she has battled the bulge her whole life however short that has been.  Since reaching high school she has only stuggled more.  Young people can be so judgemental.  I love her so much and being obese myself I can so relate to her pain.  I am only beginning my journey now and could have only wished to have been able to done something about it when I was much younger.  I wanted to thank you for your reply.  Good luck and much success on your surgery.  God Bless you.

I dont know any in South Carolina. I live in North Carolina, but when I was 16 I was trying to get my gastric bypass, but no one would do it until I was 18. There is a surgeon in Richmond,Va that will. I was going to go their but then my insurance would not pay for it. So, I am 18 now and I just got my gastric bypass November 20th. Good luck!
