Topic: Worried about daughters future
I am kinda lost and need some advice. I am fixing to have lap band because I have been overweight my whole life. Lets just say my parents didn't care what I ate and we always had fast food. Well because of all that I have been through with my weight issues (school was tough) I want life for my children to be better. My daughter just turned 3 in December and she is well......hefty. I had to buy little girls size 7 jeans and cut them off so that hey would fit her.All of my friends kids are in a 3t-4t. I am not trying to compare her to them, but I can't stand the though of her getting picked on. She is a beautiful and very active little girl, but she is very picky. I can't get her to eat anything healthy. I feel like I am doing this to her, by feeding her bad stuff, but she wont eat anything but mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, french fries and fish sticks. If you give her veggies she dose says shes not hungry and will leave it set on the table and be hungrey. Anyone have any advice to get her to eat better. Thank you Holly

I know exactly how you feel.  I July of 05' my mom had the RNY.  I was excited for her because I knew this would be a great chance for her to lose her weight and get healthy for her family.  At the same time though I felt like the one thing we had in common was now gone.  She lost the weight so rapidly we no longer when shopping together and we didn't go out to eat anymore.  I became very depressed and I struggled alot with the decision on whether or not I should have the surgery and in the end I had to make sure that it had nothing to do with my mother.  You have to take the time to find who you are and make sure that you are ready for the surgery.  It is a very emotional journey and if you are not ready for it you may hurt yourself more in the long run.  I also took alot of time to pray about my decision.  I had the surgery about 6 months later and I am grateful for it everyday, however, there are going to be many new things that you will experience and it will be very difficult.  If you decide to have the surgery I wish you lots of luck and success.

I tried when I was 16 and was 440lbs...got denied and had to wait until I was 19...when I was 600lbs. Just tell your daughter not to get depressed about it. Thats what I did and I felt like it was over and I gave up for awhile - and thats how I gained that extra weight...keep trying don't give up! And have her do whatever she can before she gets approved to try and stay focused on her goals and to just think of this as a small obstacle on her road to a new life.

I workout daily. So I have a protein shake before and after. It's become a habit :) I love good habits!  I eat egg whites all the time too. Eggs are a good source of protein :)

I was a complete ass to friends and family. I was 18 - and it was the hardest decision I ever had to make - most people our age don't have to think about such a life changing decision. It's alright to feel how you feel...When I got to the hospital met my nurses and was sitting there is when I actually became calm because I knew everything was going to be alright - and I just kept thinking about what life would be like in a few years...and you know what - the people I was mean to - and was *****y with are still with me today...I made sure I appologized to all of them afterwards lol! But they understood why I was acting the way I was! Good luck....and don't keep your emotions inside - everything your feeling is what your suppose to be feeling - and the people closest to you need to deal with it.  Sorry about the language.  GOOD LUCK!

Hey Lauren!
I am 18 and I had my surgery on November 20th. Well, I am in my freshmen year of college. I dont think I have met my protein goal yet. I think thats the one thing I have the hardest time with. Right now while I have been out of school for Christmas its been a little easier but I start back school on Wed. So I am going to try to use the flavorless protein powder in some of my drinks. Take snacks like peanut butter. I will most likely pack my lunch because college food is no better then highschool. Well, they have some things that are good, but nothing I can eat now. I would just carry around some protein powder, so that way you can mix it in about anything. I would make sure to take snacks with you whenever you go somewhere. I hope I helped some. I will be using these tips when I go back to school!

I hope you are doing well with your surgery. Its good to met someone my age! Keep in touch!

My 13 yr old daughter is about 5'10 and weighs around 270. She is a very big girl height and weight wise, but she has been losing weight on her own.I am trying very hard to help any way I can, but it takes time.I am proud of her and she is a great kid.We are working together to make our home more healthy.I am proud of the fact that she has cut her portions down all on her own.Keep trying out there.
