Well, I am Jennifer too. I am 18 and I had my surgery this past November. I think everyone goes through that. I know have. I go through my stages where I am sad for no reason and stressed over small stuff that doesn’t matter. You will find who you are; it’s just that our emotions are out of whack right now. You will get happy!! Losing 117.5lbs!! WOW!!! You are doing great. I have lost about 60lbs and I can’t really see it in me either, I can just tell in clothes. I know I am rambling, but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone. If you need to talk, I am here for you if ya need anything.
I hope you have a wonderful day!!
Jennifer

Hi everyone,
My name is Jennifer I’m 19 years old. I had gastric bypass about 8 months ago when I was 18.
I feel…like im going crazy.....I'm just lost. I feel like I don’t know who I am. Lately I’ve been really depressed and stressed out. I guess I just thought after my surgery everything would be different. I thought I would finally know who I was, but more then ever I don’t know who I am (and that scared the crap out of me)
I don’t know what to do. I mean shouldn’t I be happy?!?!?! I lost 117.5 pounds so far, and I can NOT see a difference at all. Is this normal? It scares me cuz if don’t think I look good now (weighing 198 lightest I’ve been since I was 12!) then how will I feel when I’m 150? 130 (my goal)
Anyone have any suggestions? (post or email)
Thanks for your help

YAY! I’m happy for you, good luck! I was 18 when I had gastric bypass. I know the band and bypass are very different but I was shocked that it didn’t hurt more, I mean of course there is some pain but it wasn’t bad at all. I was up walking the night of my surgery! With the bypass I lost 12 pounds the 1st week. I'm 8 months out and I’ve lost 117.5 so far. Feel free to contact me with any questions Jennifer

Thanks for the question about protein. When your weight loss is in full swing, you are essentially getting the needed energy for everyday living by burning your fat stores. So it is critical to take enough additional protein to avoid also burning your body's protein in the process. What we recommend is high quality lean protein with each meal for a total of approximately 60-80 grams per day. Our dieticians have given this alot of thought and initially recommend protein drinks consisting of 1 packet of sugar-free instant breakfast powder (such as carnation) with 2/3 cup skim milk and 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon of protein powder supplement are reasonable tasty. We lean toward Casec protein (calcium caseinate) or Resource Beneprotein (whey protein isolate) which provide 4 grams of protein per tablespoon. This can be used even later after surgery but is particularly good in the first few months.
Hope this helps!
