Topic: If your under 18...
Dont give up! I am 17 and was approved in 4 days! Make sure to look and see what they say about being underage in your insurance requirement. Aetna has an inclusion that if you are under 18 you will need proof of full growth! I did that with X-RAYS! Good luck to everyone!

hey  you think youve got it bad, a year ago I thought  i was obese and I decided to get on the scales. It didn't go up far enough. So i pucked up the courage a few months ago and saw my doctor. He took my weight and it was.....  over 400 pounds. 459.4 to be exact. The graph for boys in the Uk only went up to 180. He took my BMI and you thought that yours is bad, well mine is 72. I am super super mobably obese. I am 28.9 stone, my doctor predicted that I will be over 40 stone by 20 maybe 50. I don't know what to do either I try and break a record for fattest teenager or help me lose weight. When I was 13 I gained over about 100 pounds in a year.

who needs help, everyone is telling me that the lap band is NOT covered by OHIP, but if i was to get a referal from my doctor to a gastrologist, is there any way that it could become covered? i do NOT want a bypass because my mother had the same thing and went through horrible pain, but she is on board with me attempting to get a lap band. People are also telling me surgeons will not do a lap band on someone as young as me, but there has been surgerys like this on 14 year olds (ive done my research). i have tried everything. weigh****chers low-carb diets low-fat diets no fat diets exercise but nothing is working, for someone who has just turned 15, and i mean just--my birthday was on june 10th my BMI should not be 50, im scared in the future i'll be like 700LBS and on those shows you see on like TLC with the people stuck in bed because they weigh too much. i need someone in ontario, fast! any help?

I submitted an idea about Starbucks creating a higher protein, lower sugar & carb Frappucino base on MyStarBucksIdea.com today.  On this site, Starbucks collects ideas from the public, allows you to vote on them and then takes action on those that get the most votes.  If you like this idea and want a more WLS-friendly blended beverage option, please spread the word to your pals & go to this link and vote for it:  http://mystarbucksidea.force.com/ideas/viewIdea.apexp?id=087 500000004q0M

Topic: RE: My big day is coming!

Hey, congratulations to you! You're about a month out of surgery, and I know I didn't want to even think about sitting in my computer chair until about two months post, but I hope you'll see this sometime! I am eighteen, got my lap RNY about three months after I turned seventeen, so I'm a young one! Haha. Get ready for a whole new you, sweetie. A book I'd recommend to you is Before and After: Living and Eating Well After Weight-Loss Surgery by Susan Maria Leach. It seriously has become my WLS Bible! To help you out with products and support, keep coming here and I'd also recommend bariatriceating.com and beforeandafterhelp.com. There's a lot of support available out there, but as teens sometimes it can be confusing to try and get involved in our aftercare. But that's the only way this will work. Take chare, take control and HAVE FUN becoming a brand new you! Best of everything to you, Ashlee

I am interested to see the replies to this.  I am concerned about my DD also who is 9.  When you have been overweight like you & I have, it is SO hard to watch our children struggle.  I just wi**** could be different.  Stupid genetics LOL.

Topic: RE: My daughter needs help
First, I want you to know that in order for her to gain as much weight as you are scared of, it would take a heck of a lot of eating. Second, stop doing the 100 calorie snacks, they are not healthy nor are they helping your daughter's weight.

Eating balanced meals with fat, protein, and carbohydrates is the first order of business. Your daughter skipping meals may be contributing to gaining weight instead of the opposite. The reason is complicated but comes down to the body breaking muscle down to gain energy because it doesn't have carbohydrates for energy. Just because something is fat free doesn't make it healthy, make sure she is getting enough healthy fats (unsaturated & polyunsaturated fats), protein, and carbohydrates so that her mind and body can be healthy.

Further, what are you fixing for dinner? Make sure it's healthy, there are tons of recipes that actually taste good. Eating healthy is usually the hardest thing to do, especially with kids.

Second, what is she doing for that hour between 730 & 830? Decreasing sedentary activities (TV or computer for example) and increasing active activities for that hour will benefit not only her weight, but her overall health as well.

Hope that helps!
