it does sound very concerning as she could have massive poop in there especially with a protruding belly. sounds like she needs some reglan to keep her moving properly. My 6 year old son only poops maybe once a week and when the doctor felt his belly he said theres alot of poop in there. He was only going 1 every 2 weeks! and now hes on miralax twice daily but it still doesnt help. I would most definatly take her even to a childrens ER

Your BMI is also too low to have bariatric surgery of any kind.

Topic: RE: obese 11 year old--long, sorry!
Im exactily in the same position. I have four children preteen children. My first one just turned 13 , he is the self motivated one just like your 20yr old. I believe its personality that causes this.

My husband and I both suffered as children. And really didnt mean for our kids to have the same childhood as we did weight wise.

Its difficult especially in the summer to keep them active with out having to spend allot on special programs. It gets a little expensive with four to put through the programs.

I was told to have them do 40 minutes twice a day of physical activity. It doesnt have to be sports marathon type stuff.

We  belong to the local Y, it is income based for those that need to have a lower membership payment.  They have some modern dance type classes, hip -hop (I dont care for it but they like it ..lol), and of course there is swimming there and free basketball.
They can participate with the parents in weights and in the arobic classes.

We invested in a trampoline this summer, that has helped build their endurance, while still being fun. They all have bikes, I encourage races for them with each other or a friend. They do also enjoy going to the skate rink.Thats a couple of hours of using calories.

We have also added a German Shepherd dog (just love them because they are very intelligent, they learn quickly!) for us as a family. We have started 1 mile walks with him in the morning.

I have at least one thought a day of how I have put my children in the same situation as I was at their age.  I am hoping that my knowing whats going on is the first step to halting any further damage, and that as I change they will too.

As far as motivating them to do the activites sometimes I just have to be "parent" and tell them to go outside and leave the xbox and psp alone! Most of the time its not a problem because they have fun things to do that they have helped pick out.

At the beginning of summer, I had a sit down with them and asked them help come up with some things to do. Thats where allot of the ideas for what we have done have come from.
And yes I do have to be the organizer and motivater -- for me and them. I dont focus on "losing weight" we focus on having fun in healthy ways , the losing weight comes as an added benifit

Hope this helps some! :)

Anyways,

Just wanted to say hi!

Topic: RE: What have I done to my child? - Looking or YOUR perspective

I can tell you right now. I am a 13 yo girl who weighs 170 lbs. Sometimes I wish my parents would've told me when to stop, how much to take, etc. But I realized, they only cared about me and didn't want to hurt my feelings. When I was about 11, I remember going to a physical and when they told me I was 130 lbs., it really hit me that I needed to lose the weight. My dad wants me to eat less, and my mom wants me to excersize. We've tried, like, every diet out there and the only one that actually worked was the Atkins diet. I lost about 15 lbs, but what happened was we had to go to Saint Louis for a family event, and everything was carbs and I had to  eat something! I lost my will power then diets didn't work. I just wish my parents would've told me when I was younger about what could happen if I continued eating the way I did. My opinion, from a kids eye view, tell your kid about what happened with you and how the only reason you're telling her it is because you care. Do it in private though, or else it gets extremely embarrassing and she may start to cry. Make sure she understands that she's not going on a diet or anything, she just needs to watch what she eats. Also, something my mom used to do with me was take me shopping. We wouldn't spend anything, and if we did, it wasn't a lot. What we would do is instead of taking the escalator, use the stairs. We'd get a decently far parking spot. We would take paper and pens and go all around the mall to look for stuff we like. We'd write it down. Then, we'd take the list and rearrange it and we'd HAVE to go in order. So a week later, we'd be running around the mall debating what to get. It took a long while, but it was fun AND kept me away from computer, TV, video games, etc. Something else I'd recommend is Wii Fit.

How about getting him the Wii for some exercise?  Heck, I want one!

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.
