I had RNY on 8/29/06 and lost 205 pounds from 410 to 205 with an all time low of 198...  Now, I stay about 205.  PART of the reason I did it was my two daughters.  They've been overweight most of their teen years now and are 16 and 19 about to turn 17 and 20.  I just recently was scanning some medical records and noted that in 1997, my now 16 year old (5 at the time, almost 6) was listed as "obese."  And, she IS that now.  Actually, she has a BMI of 43.8 at 5'7 and 280 pounds.  I can see her headed where I ended up.  When I had my surgery, she was at 232 pounds and lost down to 216 as I was losing.  BUT, by the time I was a year or so out, the thrill was gone and she quit caring about her weight again.  She did not play softball last spring like she has every year since 1st grade, and her weight ballooned this past year to 280 pounds now.  She carries most of it in her upper body and it scares me!  I have tried to talk to her about it and she just doesn't want to hear it.  She already weighs more than I did at graduation and she's a junior this year, so she could be close to (or over) 300 by graduation at this pace.  I pray that is not the case, but I am out of ideas.

Anyone out there got any suggestions?  Our insurance will not cover anything related to obesity or weight loss now, so we're SOL there...  Help me help her if you can!!  You can respond here OR email me at [email protected] if you'd like...

yeah i think you gotta have ur bmi be a certain number to the doctors limit but no i dont believe every doctor will say no but for sum motto if u want it real bad work while you wait for dat perfect doc

I am 15 years of age and I have been overweight since he age of 4. My parents were always trying to get me active and i actually was. I play[ed] basketball all throught elementary school and wasn't half bad. When my parents got on me about my weight i liked to shut them out. I always ate or didn't eat, did or didn't do what i wanted when i wanted. I thought everyone was just exaggerating about my weight and before i knew it, my weight had balooned and i was more than 100 pounds overweight by the age of 11. Although the parental "nagging" annoyed me to no end, it sank in. Unfortunately it sank a little too late. Just now, at the age of fifteen, am i getting serious about my weight loss. I only wish i would have listened to all the positive influences in my life. Now I know why they "bugged" me all the time. I NEEDED them to be my savior and scream at me and MAKE me listen but i refused to let them. Now I only wish i could do it all over. I know i would be a lot happier and although my family was trying, i NEEDED them to try harder. Please realize that even though she may resent your restrictions now, you can be her savior. She needs you more than you or she knows. Hope this helped.
