I like most protein, just not fish. I eat alot of cheese. Maybe I'm not chewing enough, I'm trying to chew more. I dont eat much bread anyways since I take two bites and I'm full. And the only reason I try a pancake and the pasta, is because on this phase of the diet, it tells you what to eat. Like one side has protein, one side has everything else. It says to pick on thing from each side. And pasta is on there. But that makes alot of sense now that I think about it. I dont eat alot of it anyways, I mostly am eating yogurt and things like that. Eggs. Cheese.

Jennie. Welcome!!! But oh my gosh, head hunger is the WORST! And, "not" being able to eat bigger portions then you should doesnt really stop you either. And then you feel SO guilty that your stretching out your new stomach, but that still doesnt stop you. And then you'll just be miserable. Its the hardest thing ive ever had to go through and im not even 7 weeks out yet! And your not suppose to have ANY carbs and ANY sugar, and i do anyways because its SO hard im not even in control of my body it seems! And you cant have white flour, or it gives you diarreha! So never any bread, donuts, pasta, spaghetti, hamburger buns, sour dough bread, pizza, etc.....Oh my gosh...yum!!!!!!! So i eat that stuff anyways, (well, not donuts or pizza yet!) even though i know ofcourse ill get diarreha! To me, this surgery is horrible! Its way too hard, and im not even losing fast enough. How annoying....but maybe you'll have better luck if you talk to a therapist? ~Amy post-op DS 11-5-04

NO! NO pasta, NO bread EVER unless you want diarreha. And NO pancakes because pancakes are made with flour! Almost everyone on this earth who has had weightloss surgery, white flour affects them the most. Everyones different with the startch numbers (numbers=grams), and stuff. And plus, flour=carbs and sugar!!! And your suppose to keep the carbs and sugar VERY VERY limited to avoid weight re-gain. And pasta and bread have SO many carbs its rediculous!!! Because now, we start absorbing sugar at the mouth! And we absorb EVERY carb and sugar gram that we take into our bodies. So if you want to have the best weight results through-out, and in the end, stay AWAY from carbs and suagr!!!! Plus, you wont get diarreha! Right now, your main focus should be fluids, and proteins! But wait, you said beef doesnt sit well with you. Have you tried chicken? Or like, beef in beef broth to make it much moister? Are you REALLY REALLY chewing your food? because if your not, thats probably whats happening. Its getting stuck because its to big to fit through the hole. (the end of your stomach where the intestine is stitched on) To get your protein in, do you like eggs, cheese, beans, or some kind of fish?!?!!? Protein is also really important for healing!!! ~Amy post-op DS 11-5-04

Hi All, ( i posted this is the hunger forum as well). I am new to this website and am looking for some opinions/thoughts on something that has been hindering my WLS consideration. I am 23yo, 5'3 and weigh roughly 235-240. Surgery is something that I have been considering since last July, however everytime I think about not being able to eat the amount/quantities that I eat now...I get very upset. I know that I have been using food as a crutch/coping mechanism for so long...I just don't know how I would deal without being able to eat large portions. I know the surgery makes you 'feel' full because you have the smaller pouch, but what about the 'head hunger'. I just see myself having the surgery then crying everytime I see a McDonald's commercial. I plan on seeing a therapist/psychologist to help me work on these issues prior to surgery (if I elect to have it), but I was wondering if others went through the same thing. I feel that I need to get over this fear in order to have the surgery. Any thoughts? Thanks in Advance, Jennie

Do NOT eat ANY bread!!!!!! Bread causes diarreha because of the flour!!!! And 29 pounds is very normal at this point! Congradulations!!!! And i eat and drink together, it doesnt bother me! ~Amy post-op DS 11-5-04

hey babe... i can't say much because i'm still pre-op, but i've read around quite a bit, and from what you're saying, your weight loss seems to be going great...as for your other problems like diarrhea, maybe you should see your surgeon, to be safe..everyone always says to chew chew chew for about a minute...and between meals sip sip sip water! i'm not sure if this helps, i'd wait for some more replies :p what surgery did u get? It seems whenever I post on here its filled with a million questions. Yeah this might not be any different. lol. Okay, here we go. I'm about 3.5 weeks out now, and my diet that my surgeon gave me, lists this week as the first week of the last phase of my diet. He says I can basically eat anything but untoasted breads and seeds and nuts (well, within reason. he didnt mean like, eat an entire pie or anything!). I'm having a hard time with meat. Alot of times when I eat it, I think its getting stuck, it eventually goes down but it leaves me feeling very nausious and alot of pressure. I feel very guilty because I'm having a hard time with the no eating and drinking at the same time. Does anyone else have a hard time with that ? Also, every single time I eat, I get diarrhea (sp?). I'm worried about this the most, because I go back to work on Monday. I'm afraid to eat at work now on my lunch break because I dont want to deal with that at work. Does anyone have any suggestions for that ???? I think thats actually all. I was having some pain, where my drain was, for a few days. But its been fine. I feel like such a fat cow because I am starting to sometimes feel hungry. I hate that. Am I on track ... is it average that I've lost 29 pounds (last I checked on Friday) and its been 3.5 weeks ????

How much have you lost ? I'm about 3 and a half weeks out and I've lost 29 pounds. I'm not even really sure whats average weight loss in the beginning. But you had DS, I dont really know much about DS at all. I had RNY maybe its different ???? lol I really have no idea but I'm sorry. ((hugs)) I'm sure it'll pick up.
