1-3 oz for a stomach is the norm. 1oz isn't too small. Also, we have a gazelle or whatever they're called, that my dad got right after he had his surgery 2 months ago. We were told this would work perfect. I'm wondering what type of exercises I should do right now to tone like my upper thighs and my triceps, but things that would be safe at only 4 weeks out.

no its normal to not feel hungry about 1 monthy out my surgery told me.um u sould start feeling hungry by month 2 and if u arent then talk to ur surgeon.and thats a little small for atummy. normally the tummy is made at 2ozs.not any less then that. so ur tummy sounds a lil too small. well g2g. oh yeah, if i were u id go out and by a precor elipctical at 2nd wind store.you burn the most calories out of all the machines at a gym per minute. i lost 400cals per 30minutes and i was at 330lbs then....i did that 300-400 calorie loss workout 3 times a week for 2 weeks and ate whatever the hell i want and lost 10lbs in 2 weeks!!!it was so awesome. well bye for now!!!good luck, meghan andresen

Topic: Questions about eating and exercise
Okay, I am 4 weeks out of surgery, I had the lap RNY, and I'm down 33 pounds so far (as of Monday, my weigh in day). I still have no appetite yet and only feel like eating once a day, usually lunch, otherwise I'll just have a protein shake for my other meals or some cheese and crackers, or scrambled eggs, or toast with a little peanut butter, etc. Is it normal to still have no appetite at 4 weeks out? I still can't eat much either, probably between a 1/4th to a 1/3 cup. Is that because my surgeon only makes our stomachs an ounce that I'm eating so little? Also, how far out was it until you all started exercising again? I'm in MN and we're in the dead of winter so I can't get my bike or rollerblades out, and I'm a poor college student and can't afford a membership to the gym, does anyone do Pilates? That was my routine up until surgery. Thanks in advance for any answers!

You've come to the right place! This board is a little slow though, so if you want some faster responses, people on the main message board or your state message board are a good help also. My name's Megan, I'll be 21 next month. I just had the surgery on Dec. 13th. I'm glad that you've done your research! Have you shopped around for surgeons yet? Do you know what kind of surgery you want? What you want to first do is get ahold of your insurance company and find out if under your plan, they cover it and if they do cover it, which type of surgery they cover (Ex. ours only covers RNY, they don't cover lapband because they say it's still investigational). From there, ask them what things you need to do to be approved for surgery or where you can find that information (for example, for my insurance company, all the requirements are posted on their webpage). Some requirements are like seeing a psychologist, a nutritionist, getting the okay from your primary care doctor/physician, etc. Anyhow, once you have studied the different types of surgeries your insurance company will cover, find a surgeon that does that type of surgery who's in your insurance companies network, usually they'll only cover certain surgeons. Once you've found a surgeon, do as much research as you can on them, call their office and tell them you're interested in the surgery and request some information from them and see if there's any kind of information meeting you need or can go to and then they'll take you from there in the process. That's kind of the gist of what you should do, or what I and people I know have done. You want to cover all your bases so you have better chance of approval. With a BMI of 49 I don't think you'll have any problems being approved though, unless there's an exclusion in your policy. Let us know how it goes! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!! Hope this helps!!

Hi, I'm 18 (almost 19) years old and my BMI is 49. I've done a good amount of research on the effects of surgery and I have decided that I want surgery and I want to get the whole process started...problem is I don't really know how to get started. Any advice?

Thank you so much! I just came from there!! I was so shocked at how easy that was!! Dr. Resser was his name and he was really laid back and easy to talk to. When it was done he told me that I was a calm and laid back person who was extremely easy to talk to. He also told me he was very confident that I knew what I was getting myself into... So the info should be on its way to Tim Robarts by Friday then that means CONSULTATION TIME!!! Woo Woo I will let all of you know as soon as I know something!!! And Thanks Megan!! It is easy to get your picture on here just go to photo's and email them the picture and bam it is placed on there!!!
