Wow, if you dont mind me asking, how long did it take you to loose that 100lbs?
I really am stuck with my doctor because of insurance, and I have already been with him for so long, I dont want to have to start over... I have finished an entire program for preops with this Dr. (I have kiaser by the way, for anybody out there who might be curious).

Oh I forgot to add. okay I started at 250 lbs. right now I'm 115lbs. I'm kind of going underweight. Other than that issue there are no other health concerns. My labs are perfectly normal. I did have some hair loss in the 3rd month post op but that all grew back. The only problem now is the extra skin on the arms, legs, and stomach then the fact my breast are um sagging and resemble popped baloons.

Lap RNY. Why because I needed something restrictive. Something that was going to tell me oh you want to eat that now you feel sicker than anything and that will teach you. It might just be me but the foods I ate before, my favorites, bread, fried food, sweets etc... my pouch just can not handle it. pre op I had no clue what restrictive meant till the 2nd month post op. The lap band was just not for me. I'm like palov's dog I have to get trained over and over... eat chocolate result feeling sick eat french fries result feeling like it's stuck in my chest drink soda result feel like I need to be burped like a baby. The restrictive aspect that's what works for me.

'nother bandster here.
I'm 22, and on days when I felt particularly depressed I would do research on WLS. I read people's online journals, and experiences, etc (although I never came across this board somehow). Then I would say to myself that I wasn't big enough for something that drastic, not to mention not having the money, so I'd shelf the idea. The only one I'd read about really at that point was the RNY, probably because I was putting in Gastric Bypass as my search options because I didn't know about anything else at the time. I have no idea what site I was on at the time, but I found something on the band. I went nuts finding out everything I could on it, thinking that this was seriously something I could consider doing, but I don't have any money, so I shelved that too.
Then in May of last year, my mom and I were talking about someone we know who had the bypass, and I said "I was reading about this new one they are doing..." and I explained briefly what I'd learned. So she says "why don't you go ahead and have that done? I'll pay for it." So I did more research, filled out a form for a surgeon in Mexico, and had it done just over a month later.
So, for me it wasn't the band vs something else, it was nothing vs the band. I think that the other surgeries have done alot of good for alot of people, but the band was definately the one for me.

What a coincidence! I also used to sing in a rock band and my voice is a huge motivation for me to quit. I've been working with some musicians lately and finding that my pipes don't work the same as they used to. The hardest thing for me is either going out for coffee or going to bars - I'm not sure how to do either without lighting up! I'll just keep trying & you can be my inspriation, OK?
Thanks again for the reply & congrats on quitting.

Nicole....The Only Thing That I Can Tell You Is Think Of The Best Person Or The Best Thing That Would Be Worth Quitting Rather Than Yourself Or The Surgery! Although Those Are 2 Good Reasons Yourself And The Surgery Something Else Has To Be There. For Me....I Chose To Quit Because I Am A Lead Singer In A Band And My Scream Was Getting Worse And Worse Because I Was Constantly Smoking. I Have Noticed Now That My Screams Are A Lot Clearer! I Don't Know It's Hard For Me To Stay Out Of The Club With Smoking But I Tend To Drink More....Thats Not Good Either But Better Than Smoking. Anyways Nicole If You Want To Talk You Seem Like A Cool Chick E Mail [email protected] Or [email protected] Both Are my Screenames Too. I Look Forward To Talking With Ya! Nickster

i hear ya on having to lose weight before surgery.
The first surgeon i had wanted me to lose 150 lbs before surgery, i actually lost 100lbs it cost me around $2000, i did one of them pre packaged shakes and meal replacement things, but i went back after i literally couldnt do the diet anymore to see if he would operate on me, and he said no, so i looked for a new doc and found one that would do me.
So in a nutshell, if you cant lose the last bit of weight, and your doc will not operate on ya, i would start looking for another doc before you start gaining what you lost back :X

There are a few more choices with the lapband but for me those choices would be the "death of me" literally if i didnt get such a restrictive operation, i would have ate myself to death i think. So RNY was for me as Lap-Band is for you :D
Everything is going well for me :D I hope everything is smooth sailing for you after your surgery which im sure it will
and congrats on your quitting ciggs, personally i think thats right up there with choosing to get the surgery :D
GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING!!! and thanks for the resonse.

I am struggling like crazy to quit smoking! I have to be smoke-free 30 days before my surgery, which is still about 2 months off, but I figure the sooner I quit the better. Any tips? This is sooooo hard!
