Topic: 15 YO Daughter is size 18/XL -- Where to buy cute clothes?
Hi everyone!

We had a crisis at home today -- The 15 year old daughter is going off to her first day of HS, thoroughly demoralized because she couldn't find anything cute or that her father or I thought was appropriate and/or flattering.

She is 5'3" and size 18.

I want her to be confident at any size or body shape -- BUT . . .

Where can teenage girls get cute clothes, size 18?  Most teen shops don't have size 18, or even XL -- when they do, it's a very SMALL size 18, kwim?

Thanks for your help!

First off, everyone on this site knows exactly what you are going through. We all had to make the decision to have the surgery and it wasn't a decsion that anyone made lightly. Secondly DO NOT even consider the surgery if you are not fully committed to the idea and do not do it for anyone other than yourself! Also, this surgery is far from being the easy way out. I don't want to seem down on you or rude but you need to do a lot more research if you think that completely changing your life and the way you think and act about food and exercise is easy. I have so many people tell me that I took the easy way out and that I could have done it on my own but  the reality is, if I could have lost 92lbs on my own I would have done that a long time ago. Weight loss surgery is only a tool and it WILL NOT work unless you make it work by following the rules. WLS is not for everyone and you really need to make sure it is something you want to do for the rest of your life before you go ahead with it. This site is very helpful so read as much as you can and ask as many questions as possible. Good luck in making that decision

Topic: Anyone with the LapBand?
Hi,
I live in Western Washington and I got the Realize band about 8 months ago. I haven't had a lot of success and I'm really struggling because I feel like no one really knows the struggles that i'm going through. My mom is really supportive but she hasn't had the surgery so she doesn't really know exactly what i'm going through. I'm also going to a support group but I'm the only person in the group who has had the lap band. All of the other people have had Gastric Bypass or the Sleeve. I'm really in need of someone who has had the surgery and that I can talk to and reassure myself that I'm on the right track and that I made the right decision.  Someone I can talk about the experience with. Sorry to sound so whiny on here..

If you're not completely for the surgery than I don't think you should get it. It's basically like being on a diet and exercise program but with a little assistance and added incentive. I didn't really think about the before I got the Lap Band surgery and it's been really hard for me to change my eating habits and to start exercising more. Just always remember that it's a lifestyle change and that the surgery is going to permanent. Do a pro/ con list if you think that will help you. I know I was so desperate to have my surgery that when it was approved a week after my 18th birthday I scheduled the surgery for as soon as I could. I should have gone to a support group meeting to see how other people were managing with it and to establish a support group. That would be my biggest advice for you: Join a support group and start going even if you're just thinking about getting the surgery. You will get a lot of information about the different types of surgies and the different risks and the good things about each of the surgeries. Also, make sure you tell your friends. There is no way you can go through this without the support of your friends. If you ever want to talk just email me! Hope you find a decision that makes you happy!

I know how you feel. I feel when I make wrong choices that I have to do something to correct them. I've never actually purged because I'm too afraid of hurting my band or screwing it up but I have definitely thought about it. I feel like everytime I make a mistake I get so down on myself. Or when I don't lose weight that I was a total failure the last week. I know how you feel..

hi
i'm hoping to have the gastric bypass. i was talking with my counsoler and she said one of the biggest problems that you'll have is the attention you'll start getting from other people. i even had the same problem when i lost about 50lbs a few months ago. i gained the weight back simply because i didn't know how to handle the atttention. you've been overweight all this time and now you're thin. you're getting all this attention you don't know how to handle. please keep talking to your therapist. the attention you're getting is attention you deserve for doing something so hard. maybe you could even talk to your friends on how they handle unwanted attention from guys. if it's something you've never had to handle before than i see nothing wrong with asking for advice.

goodluck :]

 Hi Sarah!!
I would like to suggest you that as a mother you must be sometimes strict as your main aim should be to keep your child healthy and not making him happy by letting him eat what he wants!!
So check on her diet and make him eat healthy diet as it will be good for a long run!!
All The Best!!

Ok I know this seems odd and rather silly to most people but I was wondering if there is almost a dark side to surgery
And one thing i noticed is when i overeat i Throw up but there are time when i feel like when I eat something bad, i almost feel tempted to drink a bottle of water just to throw it up(a bullemic effect if you may). I know this is a quite silly thing to do because when people with the lap band throw up it can lead to a band slip.
So I've done this b4 but I stopped after a false alarm

Anyway you are probably thinking get to the point...
ok
i wanted to know, have you or anyone you know who have had weight loss surgery, preferably  lap band surgery, have felt the urge to purge despite the risk of a band slippage. If you dont want to say  whether"you've done it" you can say you know someone who did...that way an arrow wont be pointing at you....
I was hoping to write about this for an extra credit project and i dont want to feel like I'm the only one who's done it.
I Appreciate all the help I can get!

All I can say is dont do anything you dont want to do. If  you dont wont surgery .Start working on losing weight and on your mind.Just like you I have been over weight since forever(lol) but I know its hard and I also want to be comfortable in my own skin. But do some research on different surgeries. And see if it something you want to do. But please do it when you are ready .Best of luck on your choice
