The one reason that they dont want you in a state of depression for our surgery is because after surgery, you tend to have such mood swings, ups and downs left and rights, lol, everything that if you already have emotional problems adding the stress of surgery ontop of all that might be the final straw and make ya "crack" basically be up front and totally honest with them, dont try and say what you think they wanna hear. I went in and layed it all on the table, i was like i go through bouts of mini depressions, but its from the fact that i cant do this this or this because of my weight, and the dr was like i think your going to be fine with this surgery, your mentally ready for the major changes that are gunna happen in your life! _mike openRNY 2/25 628/550/532/???

Hi, my name is Finda and I am 23 years old. I am in college fulltime and recently just considered having surgery a year ago and have sent in my information to my insurance to get approved for the surgery. I can understand how you feel inside. I think that your depression has a lot to do with your weight and besides that, it is so hard to understand how being overweight affects you while you are in your highschool years. I used to cry myself to the bus stop each morning when I had to go to school on a day before a dance, because I knew that no guy would ever ask me because my weight stood in the way. I think that this is where the depression plays a important role. You should speak to you psychologist and surgeon openly about this before they have the chance to diagnose you over something that can be cured if you have the surgery. It is sooooooo hard to overcome the pain and struggle of being obese.......BUT I promise it will get easier after these tormented years in highschool. I will say a long prayer that everything goes okay with your review tomorrow. Remember before you go into that room tomorrow for your evaluation, face yourself in the mirror tell yourself that this surgery will only help you in life in the future....I wish that there were more words that I could say to take the pain away, BUT ONLY YOU CAN DO THIS.......GOOD LUCK AND I WILL PRAY.........

Hi, My name is Carmella. I am 16 years old. I also am 5'7'' and 370 lbs. I was just wondering if anyone has been denied weight loss surgery because they are depressed. I am and have a meeting between my surgen and a phyciatrist tomorrow and am worried that they are going to say that I'm too depressed to get surgery. Last week I saw another phyciatrist and he said that I need to start medication for my depression before thinking about surgery. But I know surgery is for me and hope that my depression wont stand in the way. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks, Carmella

Topic: Anyone under 18 get approved through BC/BS?
BLAH stupid dumb insurance people ::sigh:: they won't give me the surgery because they are not convinced that i'm done growing ... they ordered x-rays from my PCP to determine if i'm "done" but my PCP can't officially tell me that i'm "done" growing because people well into their 30's have growth spurts ... anyways my little mind was wondering.. and if anyone under the age of 18 with BC/ BS has been approved please let me know Thanks soooo much!!!!

Topic: RE: Skin
Hi, Andrea! My name's Megan, I'm from Minnesota also! I just turned 21 and I had Lap RNY on Dec. 13th of 2004. I'm 4 months out and down 75 pounds and the only place I'm having problems with skin is my underarms. It's not bad by any means, but it's not tight either. Everything else is shrinking right up though and my hip bones are now sticking out! lol My stomach is starting to take shape too of where abs are supposed to be so with a little more weightloss and exercise, I'm hoping to develop some definition there. My boyfriends best friend is a personal trainer and he said once I get closer to my goal weight he'll help me start to tone and tighten. My thighs are doing really well too. They just barely touch and I actually wore a bikini a couple weeks ago when I was out in the hot tub with my friends. That was a thrill! I've never worn a bikini in my life!! Anyhow, a lot of it depends on how much you have to lose, how fast you lose, and the elasticity of your skin; not much else. I was 224 the day of surgery and now I'm down to 150. I've got 20 more pounds to go before goal and my surgeon said I'll reach that by summer. Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck, and if you need anything or have questions, feel free to ask, that's what we're all here for. If in the end of all this, you think you're going to need PS, don't get bummed out about it, a lot of people have to have it. My boyfriend, he's 29, had the surgery a year ago (405 the day of surgery/248 last saturday) and is going to have to have his apron removed, his arms, and probably his inner thighs done. It's part of the process and comes with the territory. If it's real bad too, some insurance companies will cover some of the plastic surgery. (Just a little side note...one thing that really stinks is I've always had small boobs to begin with and now because of all this weightloss I've got really nothing there so that'll probably be my only cosmetic procedure, implants or something. lol My sister lost a lot of weight on her own and had the same problem with her boobs shrinking to nothing and she got implants and looks great now! She told me in the mean time to get a wonderbra and now, I don't leave home without that thing! )
