try getting on social security. because if you have the right comorbidites then they will approve you because it will hinder you from working and leading a normal life. also,. when your on social security they will approve weight loss surgery because u get free insurance and you get monthly checks since you cannot work. it doesnt matter what age your at. try calling your county and ask to talk to a social worker or get one. they can help alot!!!beliveve me. and there is something called tefra insurnace that will approve you if you have the right health problems and mental health problems. you can also apply for social security if you have mental health issues. so talk to a social worker like one at school or sumtin. beleive me....it can help!!! meghan

Thanks everyone for all help. I just wanna say that everyone that has had support from your parents is lucky because my mom pretty much hates me right now because of this whole thing. She thinks it's useless to ahve to go through lawsuits and insurance to lose weight blah blah blah. My life is usually so great, but lately it is pure HELL. If I could only lose weight, I would get a job and get out of here. I just don't see that happening for me. You are guys are darn lucky. Don't take it for granted. Thanks again. And keep me in your prayers please.

Deanna, I was self pay, and I didn't have the bypass, so as far as that goes, I'm no help, but there is an Insurance Help board on this forum. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/insurance-help/posts.html Check it out, you may get some referrals to insurances that would accept you, etc. Good luck! Hi Stephanie, just wanted to say I really hope that you get approved. I know how you feel. I'm 29 yrs old. I don't think at 19 I would have had the surgery done. Just understand that this is a lifestyle change. I had RNY Open on April 18, 2005 and it has been a rocky road. Not trying to discourage you or anything but this is very hard. Yes, I understand you hate being fat and I did too. But never did I think it was going to be this hard. Everyone is different but the hardest part for me is the surgery didn't change the fact that I still crave the foods that I can't have. I still want to eat pizza, fried chicken, pot roast, etc. but I know I can't have them. I too went though all of the pre-op stuff but still didn't know what I was in for. You have a friend in me. You can email me anytime you feel expecially after you have your surgery done. The first two weeks were the hardest. I understand your doctor wants you to lose 10% of you excess body weight before he will do the surgery. Here is a quick way to lose it and this will be your diet for at least two weeks after your surgery. Only drink clear liquids like crystal lite, jello (sugar free), chicken broth, water (lots of water) sugar free popsicles. Of course after surgery it will be more easier to only eat these few things because you really won't have an appetite. I lost about 27 lbs in two weeks just from eating this. So yes it works. Try your best not to eat anything else. You may still feel hungry but when that happens try to drink more water so you will feel full. I wish you the best of luck with you approval, surgery and recovery. You take care and get those lbs of so you can come on the other side like so many of us has. God bless you.

Hi. As you all know I am struggling and I want to know if any of you were able to get insurance as a pre-existing condition? That is my biggest problem. Getting an insurance company to approve me while I am already obese. My mom's group insurance doesn't cover and I feel screwed right now. Please reply. Thanks and good luck to those of you who were and are fortunate enough to get the gastric bypass :D -Boy, I need an angel or a fairy right now
