Topic: RE: MY TEEN IS OBESE: MAY I HAVE SOME INFORMATION?
Monica, I know having your young son at that weight at such a young age is difficult, but I don't believe surgery is an option you need to consider yet. Granted, he doesn't like to eat healthier, but maybe take him to a nutritionist? There are many other options that he can try...he's only 13, surgery at that age could be traumatizing for him when he's older, especially if there are other ways around it that don't involve medications and such. If eating is his problem, then he needs a stricter routine at meals, that's all...some advice from specialists would be great. I am still pre-op, but I do know that any type of surgery requires mental preparation and he needs to be prepared and willing to make sacrifices. Even with surgery, he would have to change to a healthier diet...it's not an easy way out, it's a tool.. I really hope you will consider all of your options with your son before turning to surgery..I believe that it should be a last resort because whether it's reversible or not, there will always be other irreversible effects that come from it. I hope this helps, and I wish you all the best Aleya

Topic: RE: ONLY 2 MORE DAYS!!!!!!!
Dear Laura: How happy I am for you. I am 43 years old and I am having my surgery the first week in August. I am so excited. The reason why I am on Teen's forum is because of my son Joey. He is 13, is 5'3 and weighs 207 lbs. I know what it was to grow up as a chubby child and I don't want that for him. I try to tell him to eat more veggies and fruits but he just doesn't want to. I will try to get him to see a doctor around where we live that does this kind of surgery. I want him to have the lap band. That is not as bad as the one's adults have or I'm having...If you can, please email him and talk to him about your surgery and what you had to go through to have it done. If you can tell him about your weight, your history, your insurance and the operation itself that you are going to have. He's really a beautiful boy and a very caring one and he will feel good if he has a friend that knows what he is going through... God bless you and you will come out fine...please keep me posted! My email is [email protected] and my son's is [email protected] God bless you Laura...please stay in touch... Monica Merlin
