Hey Maggie! I understand what you're going through, though personally I didn't really go through any indecisiveness between the two surgeries, but I'm sure you know that you should go through with whatever fits YOU best. There's always going to be pros and cons with each type of surgery, therefore you just have to sit down and determine what best fits your needs now and in the future along your journey of losing the weight overtime. I hope you get all the information you need and I wish you the best along the way!

We are so similar! What I did before seeing my surgeon was write him a letter explaining everything I've tried and why I want it- just incase I freaked out and didn't know what to say I was either going to read it or hand it to him. Turns out he was very understanding and did most of the talking. -Serena

I understand your confusion. I just had the RNY Gastric Bypass. I'm eighteen. Afterwords my doctor had said that he was so glad that I opted for the RNY Gastric Bypass as oposed the the lap band- lap band can be anywhere from 25%-70% effective and you don't want to be caught in the 25% range. That's what he told me. Also- for lap band they have to keep tightening it, with a needle if I'm correct- so that's alot of return visits. And you don't really learn how to eat again, as you do with RNY. Hope I helped. Let me know how it goes!

Okay, So I thought I almost officialy made my mind up to try for lap-band..but now now my mind and heart's leaning towards RNY...I have alot of thinking to do. I just realy don't want to get the lap then regret not going for RNY instead. I went to a Weight Loss Surgery Seminar last Saturday and got alot of information on the two surgeries..I filled out a Surgeon Referral Sheet, the women said his office would get back to me in a few days.. So I'm waiting, I guess I'll go over everything with the surgeon when he decides to make and appt w/ me. It seems so close in reach, yet I get impatient even when I know it takes time to get my answers. Anyone else go through this? If so, let me know how you dealt with it. I was also wondering, If I should set up an appt. with my doctor instead of just going through the surgeon..My mom said it realy doesnt matter either way I'll get my answers and if the surgeon doesnt want to operate on me, he might refer me to someone who will. We'll see. -maggie

Ahh! Well that's great. Just remember everybody differs surgery wise. Although lap-band is a lot slower in losing the weight.. there could still be complications along the way that others might not have experienced. I had the Roux-en-Y.. and I believe it was because I'm younger, that I only had the complications I did. The only problems I had after having the surgery last June was having gullstones, resulting in having the have my gullbladder removed 56 days later. I had kidney stones, a UTI and an ovarian cyst all at the same time. That was terrific to deal with! -- Well.. not so much. But then I had a hard time finding protien products that I could keep down. Now that' not the case so much anymore, and I'm able to eat just about anything I want. I'm actually able to keep down a lot of stuff I know a LOT of people can't.. such as beef and steak products. (I'm glad I can keep these down due to the fact that there's protien in these, so this is actually my essential primary resource for protien). Overall, I'm very proud of the progress I've made and even though I had a bit of trouble along the way, I know there are so many other people who've had it SO much worse than I (my mother for instance), I just like the remind people it's not going to be the same for the next person. But seriously, that's so awesome. I hope everything goes well and that you get what you want done. I know it's a really exciting time and I wish you the best with this all! If you ever want to talk on PM or anything.. I've got Yahoo and others. Just let me know! -Cas

Hey Cas, I'm doing just fine. I actualy went to a WLS Seminar Saturday morning and got alot of information. I think I've decided I'd like to get the lap-band. The lady who held the seminar had the lap-band and to that date had lost 80lbs, She was realy nice. And since I was underage she said it wasnt realy a problem and that actualy, 2 girls my age had gotten it done in Omaha (about 2hrs away from where I live) and were doing great! We filled out a referral paper to give to the surgeon that had done her surgery right there in Lincoln, so he's suppose to get ahold of all who filled out a referral sheet. About 20 or so people showed up, it gives me hope that I could actualy have this done. ;) Who knows, maybe he'll call today. -maggie
