Ahh. okay - I was thinking you were talking like you were already on solid food. I know some doctors do that, so I was just curious. You should NOT punish yourself.. and you should NOT look forward to dumping syndrome. I've only gotten it like 2 times in the past year and 3 days since I had the surgery, but it's really not good for the body. It's a good thing that you're drinking the water, just remember the protien and everything else, too! Does your doctor have you drinking at least 64 ounces a day?

I completely understand that. I've NEVER been in my entire life "the skinny one" or anything even remotely close. I've gone through what a lot of other overweight children, and just people in general have gone through with always being overweight, getting made fun of, etc etc. I was determined to get the weight off one way or anything, and after 7th grade.. I lost 48 pounds.. by sitting on my butt and eating all summer. Don't tell me how that happened.. I suppose I just lost a lot of my baby fat? -- But then I gained it all back. Being disappointed about this, obviously - I struggled to get it back off until I was 18.. then said screw it when my mom had the surgery when I was 17. I was thoroughly scared to even do anything like she did. She was in bed for 6 months afterwards.. protien levels? - she had none.. it was a really bad experience for her.. so many other things went wrong.. but then I decided to do it about a year later because I knew I had to get it off one way.. and obviously nothing was happening.. so I went through all my stuff to get approved and I got it done. After going through everything, I noticed how supportive all the people around me were and that made me a feel a lot more at ease. So after all that, all I was afraid of was.. ha - losing my hair. Which if you keep your vitamins and nutrients where they need to be.. you have a much better chance of that not happening, at least not as much as I've seen in some other people. Especially being younger, this will help a lot - not only with that, but with skin and it not coming back as much as if you were older. *Which I'm so VERY grateful for!* Ha - anyway.. basically I obviously started going on about something else.. just saying I know it's been dificult, but it'll get better. You will lose the weight, you just have to work with it.

I'm on a liquid diet for about 2 weeks, which I'm actually okay with- I had my jaws wired shut before in an attempt to loose weight and I was on liquids for 3 months... but I'm affraid when I can eat stuff I'll screw up. But when I start losing weight I'll be like woohoo! It's just right now. I've heard of people my weight, around my age losing 60-100 lbs + in 5-7 months and I keep reminding myself. I'm drinking alot of water. It fills me up. But it hurts. It just reminds me that even if I were to eat like a piece of bread or something I'd be really sick. I know it's sick, and maybe I just want to punish myself for getting like this, but I look forward to dumping syndrome- I'm actually affraid I wont get it. I know it's a horrible thing to think- but I mean my family just wants me to lose the weight, I do too. Ugh. I heard you have highs and lows after surgery and because of the anesthetic but uggggggh. I really appreciate your talking me through this. Sometimes it feels like no one understands.

lol yeah. Hell if when I go they tell me I lost 10 lbs I'd be more ecouraged. Right now it's like "What the hell did I do this for?" "I'll never lose the weight." I've NEVER been anywhere close to thin or even average weight, so I kind of feel like I never will.

Lol.. you sound like me after my surgery. I'm sure you've lost weight. Especially with the RNY.. you lose fast.. and trust me.. so -- i know you're only a couple days out of surgery.. are you not on a liquid diet? or what exactly kind of diet are you on right now and when does that change?

Ah.. it's really good not to weigh yourself all the time.. I always loved going to my follow ups, such as i did three days ago on the 14th to see what their scale said. It's always more fun that way, I think. For some reason, I feel like their scale is more accurate and the staff there was always really supportive, so it was nice to have someone say something about the weight I had lost. Lol - Write all you want.. I'll definitely be around, as I'm sure others will be as well.

Topic: RE: Support needed for my teen
I understand both of your frustration- but perhaps trying a liquid diet (like Optifast) will get the ball rolling) In two weeks she could probably loose 20 pounds- that combined with excercise will bring her down to 100 lbs easy. Surgery is a big decision. Even if your daughter is mature, it is still a really big thing for anyone to go through. I live in Canada and I have medicare and the doctors don't really want much to do with you until you are eighteen- even for my surgery, it seemed like they were waiting until I could sign the consent forms. They thought that my mom was pushing me and that she wanted it more than I did. So if I haven't persuade you to try otherwise, then I'd suggest that you have your daughter do most of the talking but that you show your support because that would show that she wants it. However I think you should try Option 1 first- 220 really isn't that bad. It's 21 lbs away from 199, about 58lbs from the average weight. You have to take it in small steps. I hope I've helped.

Okay so I can't take any painkillers because there is NO WAY in hell I'm going to take a supository (actually when I was in the recovery room I yelled at a nurse, even though I was totally out of it.) "We're going to give you a suppository." "NOOOoooo!" "Why not?" "CAUSE IT'S EMBARAsssssing!" Pass Out. I guess I'll never know if I got it or not. LOL! And I can't take crushed pills because I know that it will probably make me vomit, and I'm so grossed out by these staples and the last thing I want is for them to explode. And because I'm feeling sorry for myself- it couldn't get much better (I'm sure you ladies can understand this) I've had my period since I checked in at the hospital. (EVERY TIME I HAVE TO HAVE SURGERY- 3 TIMES NOW! ) Just to add some bloating/discomfort and embarassment to my situation. Yeah. Tell me you want to do a urine sample. UGGGGGGH. lmao well okay now I'm laughing at myself. I'm so odd. So basically I'm sitting here, on this website bored out of my mind (people have been very supportive mind you) because all the tv is offering are LAME RERUNS! And I'm home alone because everyone has better things to do. And my cat is circling my feet like a shark because he loves sitting on my stomach. And it hurts like hell. And I'm not sure if I lost weight. Probably not. And I think I'm hungry but I'm not- how messed up is that? I need to find something to occupy me other than food. And whats worse? I'm running out of things to ***** about!

Thanks I really appreciate it. I actually haven't weighed myself, I don't trust my scale. Last time it was 30lbs off so it led to some dissapointment. I have a pre-op check up in two weeks and I guess they're going to weigh me then. I figure it will be more fun like that. lol I'll probably be writing!

Congradulations! How are you feeling now? I had the RNY one year 2 days ago. I couldn't be happier. I remember my third day out - how happy I was to be leaving the hospital. Then again, the long ride home from the hospital (3 hours) was just... terrific! *Not really.. slighty uncomfortable* How much weight have you lost so far, do you know? Just in the three days I was there I lost 11 pounds. At the time of surgery I weight 239.5, 5'5 and I was 18, as well. So anyway, congradulations once again! Good luck from here on out - if you need anything.. we're always here. Just write!
