Angela, Most insurance, and obesity surgeons will not do surgery for anyone under 18. My surgeon WILL NOT do surgery on anyone under 18. I'm 17 at the time, and have to wait until November to get the process started. I should have my band by my b-day in April. Almost ALL insurance will not do surgery for a 16 yr. old. You have a better chance of waiting for her to be 17, or 18. Bring her to her PCP to document her wait issues so you can get the process done early. My mother is very supportive of my surgery idea. My dad lets my mom handle everything. He has awesome insurance so I guess I'm just happy with that. Good luck to your daughter!!

Stanford is starting to do them on teens, I'm 16 and in order for them to consider you for any surgery you have to do a 6 month diet. Well I'm on my 8th month and they have or are about to do lapband on 1 teen. I am not going for it I am going for RNY, But that is what I heard maybe you and your parents can look into it. There is also a place in San Fransico I believe there website is www.sflap.com but im not positive. Good luck! Kylie www.kylieswls.blogspot.com

I had the lap band in February and am down 57 pounds so far. I was only in hospital one day and then back to work in 1 week. It was the best decision i could have made. I am learning to eat a more healthy diet and don't have ti worry about vitamins. I have had one fill so far and it wasn't bad at all. My granddaughter is 17 and wants to have it but is having a problem finding a surgeon to do it until she is 18. Good luck in your decision. Barbara

I'm going to try my best to not allow myself to have anything off the list that I know I'd try and eat more of- like M&Ms (out of habit) atleast until I'm down 7 months. I know thats a big goal - but I'd have problems otherwise.

You should definately find out how much of what, and when for all that if you're not sure about it. It's very critical at this point to get what you need, when you need it. You probably need to definately other things besides jus****er, even though water is something you are okay with drinking.. there's other clear, no-sugar-added liquids, as well. Such as: apple cranberry and grape juice, clear broth or bouillon, sugar-free gelatin, herbal or decaffeinated tea or coffee, sugar-free kool-aid, crystal light, carb solutions, wylers light (but only decaffeinated flavors for this).. and many others. let me know if you want to know more. basically what i was told was about 4-6 ounces hourly adding up to 64 ounces a day. and also - protien for this. such as: atkins, carb solutions, advant edge, slimfast low carbohydrate, isopure, and some gnc products. this is all in reference to what i got from my surgeon.

I have lost a bit of hair.. it's not all THAT bad.. but it's mostly on the sides.. so it kinda sucks.. but whatever - I'm seriously not concerned with my looks at this point. At first, I was taking Hair, Skin, and Nails.. which now I've just recently changed to VistaVitamins just last week actually.. which is specially made for gastric bypass patients.. basically all I take now are the VistaVitamins and iron pills. I really recommend the VistaVitamins once you can start taking all that stuff. It's not THAT difficult to keep the weight off. You just have to follow directions, don't try to make yourself eat what you can't. The first few months/years are going to be the most critical. I know a few people who can't handle certain foods. In fact, I know one person who couldn't keep anything down at all. -- For some reason, she ate some M&Ms.. *keep in mind she was only like 3 or 4 weeks post-op.. so should not have been eating such items* and she kept them down.. unfortunately, the outcome was her gaining the weight back because she learned to handle an entire extra large bag of them a DAY. -- Basically just do as your doctor sees fit and you should be fine. I know it's dificult.. obviously -- I've been through it -- but it's important to do so. My surgeon ordered 64 oz a day for liquids and 60g protien a day, as well. the 64oz is going to be hard, and you're not always going to accomplish that, but it's important to at least try your best to see that done.

I'm not really sure how much water I'm supposed to drink, I guess I should check that out- yesturday I only managed to drink 3/4 a bottle of water. Drinking water upsets my stomach for some wierd reason.

lol no you were on topic- we all go through it no matter how different our stories. I really appreciate your sharing that with me. Did you lose any of your hair? and I was also wondering if you've managed to keep most of the weight off? I heard it's really difficult.
