Topic: RE: Advice Needed
Reading your post I must tell you that rarely will a surgeon operate on someone that's under 18. Unless it's the most serious of conditions. Now...no one here can tell you what sugery is best for you. Believe me please see your PCP first. There are people *****cieve or give false info. about other surgeries and you should research ALL surgery! There is the RNY, Fobi Pouch, DS, VBG, Lap band, ect. There are many options. Good Luck to you! Make sure you talk to your PCP about a referral, and express your interest in WLS.
Good Luck!!

I agree Vanessa. The G/B was a bit to severe for me. If I have medical problems like diabetes I would def. lean towards the DS (since that's said to be the best to treat diabetes). But since I don't I decided on the band. Plus knowing someone who had a RNY (G/B) 8 yrs. ago and all the problems she's had with weight regain it's sad. She worked so hard to get down to 140 and now she's back at 250+ at 8 yrs. ou****ching Carnie Wilson on Celeb Fit Club and watching how she's being so truthful with her her up and down with the RNY I love her for it. Also the other woman whos mother had a GB 11 yrs. ago and now has regained all her weight. It tells people that this is a tool, and that you must work for your weight loss. BUT there are options for the regain. My aunt is looking into getting a band placed around her pouch, or a DS.

thanks, Lisa I'm not sure about the experience on teens, but i am certainly going to ask. She won't do surgery until you're 18, so i know shes never done anyone below that age. I'll be 18 in december, and with the requirements of my insurance company, it would be 18 before the process was complete. I'll be sure to write to you if I have any problems, and same to you. I'm not sur ethat i could help right now, because i haven't been there yet, but i certainly do know how to listen.
love,
Vanessa

I think if I were you I would sit down and just think of anything you want to know. I say there are never too many questions or there or no stupid questions. I wish I would have asked more questions.Does your mom's doc have experience doing surgery on teens? Are there any support groups in your area designed for teens? If I can help in anyway I am here. Good Luck

Topic: Would like to hear from teens who've had WLS...
Hi ^_^ I would just like to hear from some other teens who have had/are having WLS. I'm sheduled for mine on September 18th, and would just like to know a little more about what to be expecting, from people who have already been there
Thanks,
-Liz

Hi there Stacey I'm 18 and scheduled for RNY on Sept. 18th. It would be really cool to hear of your experiences so far, seeing as I will be going through the same thing!
As for the protein drink thingies, I was put on this stuff called Optifast, and I have to stay on it until the surgery date. It's not bad at all, it's alright I suppose. Except it's kind of expensive and you have to order it from this one medical company or whatever.
Anyways...^_^
