Hey, this is kinda random, but it looks like most of the teens on here have gotten lap band, why is that? is it because its minimally invasive or is it becase you wanna lose the weight and take it out or what? I personally had the Open RNY. What was your reasoning behind getting the surgery you did? or in the case of you pre ops, what was your decision to get the surgery your going to get? thanks _mike

Hey Mike I Am Pre Op For The Lap Band...I'm Having Surgery April 11 But I Chose The Lap Band Because You Have More Choices In Life There After. It's Nothing Against RNY It's Just I'm Young Ya Know Im Only 20 And I Figure That Why Not Do The Lap Band If I Ever Need The RNY It's There. I KNOW That I Will Not Need It Because I Am Going To Do GREAT With The Lap Band But I'm Just Saying There Is Just So Much More To Get From It. The Only Difference In My Opinion Is That You Lose A Lot More And A Lot Faster With The RNY. Weight Loss Is Not Suppose To Be A Fast Paced Thing. It Didn't Go On It 5 Months So How Can You Expect Your Body To Adjust To 100 Lbs In That Time. I Don't Know Just My Opinion Nothing Personal Against Either Surgery I Just Felt That The Lap Band Is Better Off For Me As For You The RNY Was Better. I Hope Everything Is Going Well For You And I'll Keep Everyone Posted On My Lap Band. I Just Quit Smoking 4 Days Ago So Thats A Big Step For Me In General! Yay Nickster TTYL Nikki

There are a few more choices with the lapband but for me those choices would be the "death of me" literally if i didnt get such a restrictive operation, i would have ate myself to death i think. So RNY was for me as Lap-Band is for you :D Everything is going well for me :D I hope everything is smooth sailing for you after your surgery which im sure it will and congrats on your quitting ciggs, personally i think thats right up there with choosing to get the surgery :D GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING!!! and thanks for the resonse.

Hi everyone.... first sorry i have been MIA, lots or personal/work stuff going on in my life... i promise i will post more. Ok, to answer your question... i am pre op, but am going to have open RNY. I chose this because I am 24 (not a teen) and have struggled with weight my entire life. I dont think that RNY is a complete fix, but I was worried that with the lapband I would return too quickly to my odd habbits with so much freedom. i am a person who *needs* to have my limits set or else i go crazy... an all or none attitude i suppose. I wish i were having laproscopic, but since i weigh so much (i currently am 315, and have to be 300 for my Dr. to schedule me- and i am only 5'4" short on a good day, with high shoes;) and since i carry my weight in my stomache, I was told i had to have open... but honestly, there probably are less risks for me that way. But, each person needs to decide for themselfs, of course... which is best for them. But that is what i chose, and i am happy with the decission... hopefully i will be happy post op as well.

Hey Michael, just wanted to take this time to respond to your post. I am 18 years old and I had the Lap-Band done as well on December 15th. Personally I had the band instead of the RNY for several reasons. The reasons I got the band are because it is less invasive, no re-arranging of major organs and quicker recovery time. The reasons I didnt get the rny is all the opposite reasons of listed above and the fact that I was a self-pay and the lap-band is half the cost of the rny. Each surgery is just a tool to help us get to losing the weight quickly, effectively and changing our lifestlye and mindset. If we dont change those things about ourselves then the "tool" might fail. ~*~Megan~*~

'nother bandster here. I'm 22, and on days when I felt particularly depressed I would do research on WLS. I read people's online journals, and experiences, etc (although I never came across this board somehow). Then I would say to myself that I wasn't big enough for something that drastic, not to mention not having the money, so I'd shelf the idea. The only one I'd read about really at that point was the RNY, probably because I was putting in Gastric Bypass as my search options because I didn't know about anything else at the time. I have no idea what site I was on at the time, but I found something on the band. I went nuts finding out everything I could on it, thinking that this was seriously something I could consider doing, but I don't have any money, so I shelved that too. Then in May of last year, my mom and I were talking about someone we know who had the bypass, and I said "I was reading about this new one they are doing..." and I explained briefly what I'd learned. So she says "why don't you go ahead and have that done? I'll pay for it." So I did more research, filled out a form for a surgeon in Mexico, and had it done just over a month later. So, for me it wasn't the band vs something else, it was nothing vs the band. I think that the other surgeries have done alot of good for alot of people, but the band was definately the one for me. Lap RNY. Why because I needed something restrictive. Something that was going to tell me oh you want to eat that now you feel sicker than anything and that will teach you. It might just be me but the foods I ate before, my favorites, bread, fried food, sweets etc... my pouch just can not handle it. pre op I had no clue what restrictive meant till the 2nd month post op. The lap band was just not for me. I'm like palov's dog I have to get trained over and over... eat chocolate result feeling sick eat french fries result feeling like it's stuck in my chest drink soda result feel like I need to be burped like a baby. The restrictive aspect that's what works for me.

Oh I forgot to add. okay I started at 250 lbs. right now I'm 115lbs. I'm kind of going underweight. Other than that issue there are no other health concerns. My labs are perfectly normal. I did have some hair loss in the 3rd month post op but that all grew back. The only problem now is the extra skin on the arms, legs, and stomach then the fact my breast are um sagging and resemble popped baloons.

I had Open RNY with the Micropouch... I wanted to lose all my weight that is why I went with the Pouch... Plus I was 300 pounds I had some weight to lose. Plus I wanted to know the pouch could and never would strech out over time. They can only do the pouch open at this time because they need to feel what their doing. when I walked into my surgeons office I wanted the band but he changed my mind really fast on that . Do I like having a huge scar there NO! have I gotten over it YES! I have lost over 100 pounds in 8 months with the band that would have not happend for me. I needed this weight off so that is why I did it Open RNY. I think all WLS are good .. whatever floats your boat you should go with.
