Hey everyone I havent been here in a while. I am 17 and I am HOPEFULLY having surgery soon. I have a question for those of you who had a lapband surgery. We (me, doctors, and everyone involved) are aiming to have my surgery done with in the next month or two, and I know with the lapband you loose less weight than opposed to the RNY surgery, but I was just wondering... because I havent seen any average amount of weight lost post surgery for lapband painents, just percentages. how much weight did you loose with in say 2/3 weeks out of surgery?! thanks

I had RNY but you can expect to loose about 15 pounds in 2-3 weeks. Rny and lapband average the same amount of weightloss over a 3yr period. Jae

I am 19 and had Lapband done on Nov. 1st and lost 13 pounds the first week and had lost a total of 22 at my 6 week checkup. I am now 10 weeks out and have lost a total of 34 pounds. I don't know how much I had lost at 2-3 weeks out, but I am soooo pleased with what I have lost so far.

Hey Samantha- I just wanted to say first of all that in the long run you will lose as much as an RNYer (as long as you follow the basic rules). Just not as fast. Anyway, within the first month of surgery I'd lost 25 lbs. I'm 6 months out and down 40 lbs altogether (as of last monday). Some people have lost faster than me, while others slower. I'm pretty happy with myself at this point. They say the average loss is 1-2 lbs per week. I'll tell you that right now I'm at 1.6 lbs lost per week average. My current trend seems to be to not lose for 2 weeks or so, and then drop a few lbs. The last time I got on the scale I'd lost 5 lbs from the week before. I weigh once a week. Shoot me a message if you have any questions. (I'm 22 but the guys lemme hang on the teen board anyway :P) Sarah

Hi everyone!!! Thank you for all the replies regardless if was to just to say hi or to answer my questions, I really appreciate it. My first consultation is today. I am nervous. For some reason my insides aren't so butterflyish, but in my head I am getting worried. I don't know why, I know the Dr. is just going to tell me everything I need to know and what not, but for some reason I am still nervous. Hopefully all goes well *crosses fingers*

having the lapband makes it easier for old habits to stick around. and you can still have fat and sugar without the consiquences of getting sick. people sometimes don't understand that being overweight is a sickness and you don't understand how sick you are until you are restricted from your best friend food. i had rny because the turning back to your old self ratio is to high and i'm not going back to my old self. i have a friend who had lapband loss 100lbs and hasn't been able to shed not one more pound on the band at all now she is back to starving and working out like she has never had weight loss surgery ever and is even looking into have rny now. only thing i don't understand with people is if your going to let the doctor cut you open you might as well go with what has the better outcome i would hate for you to have regrets like my friend and not get to were you wanna be.

i agree, i was going to get the lap band, the lil information seminar i went to got me hook line and sinker...but the more research i did, i wanted the rny...because it just had a better result...but as long as you did a good amount of research and you think that the lap land is for you by all means..go ahead. but i cat stress enough..research!

You need to do the research for yourself but it seems overall that lap band has slower weight loss and rny very quick. Since you are young you need to think about your future too. I had lapband becasue I'm 24 and I want to have children someday. Of course you can when you have rny but rny is a malabsorbsion procedure which means that the regular nutrients that you get from foods is not absorbed into your bloodstream and can cause you to take vitamin B-12 shots for the rest of your life and take vitamins everyday. Lapbanders should also take a multivitamin everyday but if we don't we're not going to have a vitmin deficiency becasue we can still absorb nutirents from food. I also didn't want my organs cut-and-pasted in my body and I know that when I do get pregnant I can have all the fill taken out of my band to accomadate for more calorie intake. It's really you're presonal decision but just a little more background info for you.
