questions, like always!
It seems whenever I post on here its filled with a million questions. Yeah this might not be any different. lol. Okay, here we go.
I'm about 3.5 weeks out now, and my diet that my surgeon gave me, lists this week as the first week of the last phase of my diet. He says I can basically eat anything but untoasted breads and seeds and nuts (well, within reason. he didnt mean like, eat an entire pie or anything!). I'm having a hard time with meat. Alot of times when I eat it, I think its getting stuck, it eventually goes down but it leaves me feeling very nausious and alot of pressure.
I feel very guilty because I'm having a hard time with the no eating and drinking at the same time. Does anyone else have a hard time with that ?
Also, every single time I eat, I get diarrhea (sp?). I'm worried about this the most, because I go back to work on Monday. I'm afraid to eat at work now on my lunch break because I dont want to deal with that at work. Does anyone have any suggestions for that ????
I think thats actually all. I was having some pain, where my drain was, for a few days. But its been fine. I feel like such a fat cow because I am starting to sometimes feel hungry. I hate that.
Am I on track ... is it average that I've lost 29 pounds (last I checked on Friday) and its been 3.5 weeks ????
hey babe...
i can't say much because i'm still pre-op, but i've read around quite a bit, and from what you're saying, your weight loss seems to be going great...as for your other problems like diarrhea, maybe you should see your surgeon, to be safe..everyone always says to chew chew chew for about a minute...and between meals sip sip sip water!
i'm not sure if this helps, i'd wait for some more replies :p
what surgery did u get?
Aleya L.
NO! NO pasta, NO bread EVER unless you want diarreha. And NO pancakes because pancakes are made with flour! Almost everyone on this earth who has had weightloss surgery, white flour affects them the most. Everyones different with the startch numbers (numbers=grams), and stuff. And plus, flour=carbs and sugar!!! And your suppose to keep the carbs and sugar VERY VERY limited to avoid weight re-gain. And pasta and bread have SO many carbs its rediculous!!! Because now, we start absorbing sugar at the mouth! And we absorb EVERY carb and sugar gram that we take into our bodies. So if you want to have the best weight results through-out, and in the end, stay AWAY from carbs and suagr!!!! Plus, you wont get diarreha! Right now, your main focus should be fluids, and proteins! But wait, you said beef doesnt sit well with you. Have you tried chicken? Or like, beef in beef broth to make it much moister? Are you REALLY REALLY chewing your food? because if your not, thats probably whats happening. Its getting stuck because its to big to fit through the hole. (the end of your stomach where the intestine is stitched on) To get your protein in, do you like eggs, cheese, beans, or some kind of fish?!?!!? Protein is also really important for healing!!!

I like most protein, just not fish. I eat alot of cheese. Maybe I'm not chewing enough, I'm trying to chew more. I dont eat much bread anyways since I take two bites and I'm full. And the only reason I try a pancake and the pasta, is because on this phase of the diet, it tells you what to eat. Like one side has protein, one side has everything else. It says to pick on thing from each side. And pasta is on there.
But that makes alot of sense now that I think about it. I dont eat alot of it anyways, I mostly am eating yogurt and things like that. Eggs. Cheese.
Hey, Brittany! I'm three weeks out tomorrow and I also have the runs quite often after I eat. I called my surgeon and he told me it could be one of 2 things. It could be the dairy products (I was eating a lot of cheese and yogurt) or it could be my intestines getting used to the new way of digesting my food, put quite simply. So, he said to try and not eat any dairy products and see if that helps. So, I stopped eating dairy and it went away. I ate some tomato soup last night and used half water half milk, not even thinking, and soon after I was running to the bathroom, so in my case, I'm pretty sure it's the dairy. So, I suggest trying that and seeing if that makes a difference.
As for the bread, your surgeon is right, you want to stay away from untoasted bread because it'll just ball up in your stomach and could get stuck, etc. Toast, atleast according to our surgeon and I'm guessing yours, is okay. I've had half a piece of toast with a little bit of peanut butter for breakfast and it went down fine. Just chew really well!! I've also had pasta salad for lunch and that went down great! I haven't had any problem with starches, whi*****ludes potatoes and I lived on those in the beginning right out of surgery. My boyfriend who is 9 months out eats bread a couple times a week, but just little bits and most of the time it's toasted or else it's a bagel or an english muffin, not soft fresh bread. Just go by what your surgeon suggests. Everyone's body reacts differently to different foods, so it's all about trial and error. Just because one person gets sick from something doesn't mean you'll get sick too. I can eat beef stew but my boyfriend, even at 9 mos out, can't. He dumps from it.
Now, the meat. I have been having problems with that too, be it chicken, turkey, or red meat (I cheated with my diet over new year, we always have steaks and I had a couple bites even though I'm not supposed to have them for another week). What I have found though is if I cut it really small and chew it like there's no end, I can swallow it okay, but I can only have a tiny bit, like 3 bites and I can't eat anymore. It could also be that you're having problems because your opening to your stomach could still be a little swollen...it takes about 4-6 weeks for it to fully heal.
Oh, one last thing. I was 223 the day of surgery and today, one day before my 3 week post op date, I'm down to 196. So, I'd say you're losing at a good rate.
Good luck and e-mail me if you have any questions or just want to visit!
