Lap RNY is Laproscopic RNY. Laproscopic is when the surgeon makes 5-6 little incisions, and uses a little tiny camera to see what hes doing in there! So the surgical stapler and everything are attatched to long rods that he sticks in the little holes. Open RNY is when the surgeon makes a long incision right down the middle of your mid-section! ~Amy post-op DS 11-5-04

there are so many different types of surgery that sometimes it can be confusing, but this part of the site [http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/m-surgerytypes.phtml ] is very informative. i would look up the best surgery that is for you...then find a surgeon that does that surgery around you. im personally getting the open rny where they slice me open and make my pouch about 2-3 oz... and bypass about 18 inches of my intestine.

I'm just wondering- what have you tried in the past? And are you sure you need the surgery? I mean you said yourself you don't know anything about it. The only reason I ask is because I personally don't think I would have been prepared to have major, life-altering surgery when I didn't even have a driver's license yet. I don't mean to be condescending or any of that because I hate when people get on my ass about being young and getting surgery but 16 to me just seems so young for this.

Go to that link for the obesity help surgery types. It will give you TONS of information. I live in Hawthorne, and perhaps we could get together some time and chat about it. I know most about the Lap Band because that's what I got, but I do know a good deal about the RNY (bypass) as well. Do you have insurance? What started you looking at surgery? Tell us about you!
