Hi everyone! Just 12 days till open DS with Dr.Keshishian in Delano California! We're leaving in 10 days because i have 1 more pre-op on November 4 to see if i have any more questions, and to tell me what time to be there for surgery the next day! So we're leaving the 3rd because it takes 5 hours to get there! Im SO excited!!! But i have a question for you post-ops. How long was it till you acually had the strength to get up, get all ready(the whole shebang! shower,makeup,blow-dry you hair, get dressed...Did i just say shebang? LOL!!!!), and drive somwhere? Im going to make my appointment at the sleep center for my follow-up for like, a month after surgery. Its a 1/2 hour away from my house. Would it be safe to say you had the strength 1 month out? ~Amy

Hi Amy, The first day I actually got "ready" was about 10 days after surgery, but my surgery was done lap which is a lot less hard on you than open. My dad had open RNY on march 5 and if I remember correctly it was about 2 weeks before he evn felt like getting out of bed, but I think he did get out of the house at 3 or 4 weeks. Remember this is my dad so he is a lot older than you so I'd say you're pretty safe, but you may want to talk to someone your age who had open wls since they would probably know more about what you can expect. Lke i said though i think you'll be fine. ~Lisa

Hello Amy, My mom had the open DS, about 2yrs ago!! She took 6 weeks off from work but felt like she needed more! I would say it took her about 3 weeks to do the things u listed above. But it was very difficult for her to drive at first! I hope this info helps!! Also good luck I hope everything goes well!! Daniel

I think it all depends on if you are having open or lap. By a month out I had enough strength to go to class and stay on campus for about 5-7 hrs. every other day, but I was physically fatigued to the point were that every other day rest was needed. I didn't get back to fully normal physically till probably two months out. I drove alittle before 2 weeks after surgery I had to get out of the house.
