second thoughts about RNY...

so, I have about 200 lbs to lose. Ultimately, I want to be in the normal weight category, maybe slightly overweight without PS. No problem. But I want to be able to live like a relatively normal person. I don't want to be obsessed about every piece of food that goes into my mouth. I don't want to dump. You know, it's like this...I'm only 19. I still have a lot of living left to do. LOTS. And I don't want to be obese, but nor do I want to be incredibly restricted with what I eat, so that say, in the middle of Africa, I'm not not eating because I throw everything up or dump. You know? I know that with RNY a lot of people can eat most things...but many can't, and I have to live with this for the rest of my life. 5, 10 years from now, I don't want to have to revise anything because I'm gaining back weight. So, I think I might talk to my surgeon about DS. There's a surgeon in his practice that does it laproscopically...and how hard are they to come by? I have this great opportunity...if insurance covers it, then why not? Right?

Hello Lauren, I totally understand where u are coming from with the RnY you can gain your weight back. But when having the DS your chances of gaining your weight back is very slim! Hey my mother had the DS about a year and a half ago. She was 352 and now she weighs 185!!! She looks great. But Lauren when someone has the DS they have to take numerous amounts of Vitamins all day long for the rest of your life. So you should consider your options. Hell I might do the DS! Daniel Castro

Hey Lauren, I understand where you are coming from and in no way am I trying to make a decision for you but like you said it is for the rest of your life. I am 21 years old and I am choosin to get the Lap Band. I don't want nothing in me changed because I read too many stories of people having no problems for the first three years and then they start having major complications. I know I can't stay obese it's just not an option but in the same breath I can't take a big risk like in having RNY or DS. They both include altering your insides one way or another. With the band it's much safer and in the future I can always have it adjusted if I start gaining again. Look into it.... Bye

I've thought about that too, but the only thing that concerns me is getting it adjusted without a lot of flucuations. I tend to move around a lot and will be for a long while, and to have to find a doctor familiar with it to adjust it will be pretty difficult. Thanks for the advice, though, I appreciate it.
