im 17, i think about 270/280lbs. i have a loving bf, family, and friends. i have been fat or overweight or w/e ever since i had memories. i've never been skinny or comfortable with my body ever. sometimes it happens but it doesnt last long. it runs in my family along with high blood, pressure and diabetes. i do not want to end up like some of the members of my family. but i feel like i dont have the decipline to contiue a diet or a workout or anything. i feel like i shouldnt be feeling like this because i havent really tried. but its not easy and i feel like im being lazy. but my mom wants me to get a surgury for years and ive avoided conversaitons about it andd have told very few of my firneds. i dont want to go though with it cause i feel like its the easy way out...plus surgury is like omg to me cause ive never had anything more than stiches. i dont even remember having those! soo yea...i feel like i should just try one more time, all or nothing. but idk. and it doesnt even nothing help that everyone and their grandmother is losing weight like nothing. and its frustraiting to see that. -sigh- i just dont kno what to do. should i go through and ginve in? or should i just keep trying and see if that works?

All I can say is dont do anything you dont want to do. If  you dont wont surgery .Start working on losing weight and on your mind.Just like you I have been over weight since forever(lol) but I know its hard and I also want to be comfortable in my own skin. But do some research on different surgeries. And see if it something you want to do. But please do it when you are ready .Best of luck on your choice

If you're not completely for the surgery than I don't think you should get it. It's basically like being on a diet and exercise program but with a little assistance and added incentive. I didn't really think about the before I got the Lap Band surgery and it's been really hard for me to change my eating habits and to start exercising more. Just always remember that it's a lifestyle change and that the surgery is going to permanent. Do a pro/ con list if you think that will help you. I know I was so desperate to have my surgery that when it was approved a week after my 18th birthday I scheduled the surgery for as soon as I could. I should have gone to a support group meeting to see how other people were managing with it and to establish a support group. That would be my biggest advice for you: Join a support group and start going even if you're just thinking about getting the surgery. You will get a lot of information about the different types of surgies and the different risks and the good things about each of the surgeries. Also, make sure you tell your friends. There is no way you can go through this without the support of your friends. If you ever want to talk just email me! Hope you find a decision that makes you happy!

First off, everyone on this site knows exactly what you are going through. We all had to make the decision to have the surgery and it wasn't a decsion that anyone made lightly. Secondly DO NOT even consider the surgery if you are not fully committed to the idea and do not do it for anyone other than yourself! Also, this surgery is far from being the easy way out. I don't want to seem down on you or rude but you need to do a lot more research if you think that completely changing your life and the way you think and act about food and exercise is easy. I have so many people tell me that I took the easy way out and that I could have done it on my own but  the reality is, if I could have lost 92lbs on my own I would have done that a long time ago. Weight loss surgery is only a tool and it WILL NOT work unless you make it work by following the rules. WLS is not for everyone and you really need to make sure it is something you want to do for the rest of your life before you go ahead with it. This site is very helpful so read as much as you can and ask as many questions as possible. Good luck in making that decision
