Hey.... I am soo excited I found this group! I am 18 and have been morbidly obese for awhile now. I know how everyone feels. I have recently decided that I am going to change. I had done the doctor supervised diets and did all the requirements for the lap band when I was 16 but I was denied by insurance for being a minor. I am 18 know and my insurance will not over anything that has to deal with weight loss.  I am actually having to finance my surgery on my own now. But having to pay for it is going to be soo much better that having to live like this anymore... I am having the VSG! for those of you that are leaving toward the bypass should research this procedure. I  was changed my mind! Well let me know if I can help or if you just want to talk! Hope you all well and will pray for everyone!

Hi Courtney,
I think you are a wise teenager!
There are alot of reasons to look carefully at all the options that are out there for weight loss.
The VSG is very promising, but not alot of research results yet.

The surgeons who have done the most of these procedures in adults have had good results. The weight loss can be as good as the gastric bypass.

Please keep us informed of your progress, ok?

Warmest regards,
Dr. Inge

My daughter is 15 and we are looking into WLS.  She has her first appointment on 11/10/09.  She has been overweight for a long time and we have been trying to find help since she was about 10.  Our family dr never ran tests and we knew something was wrong because we watch everything we eat.  She has hyperinsulinemia.  She takes 10 mg of byetta 2 x a day and 1000 mg of Fortamex.  Her weight has stablized but not lost.  She always played basketball and soccer even though she was heavy because she loves sports.  Last year her coach said he couldn't play her anymore which was devastating to her.

I hope I am doing the right thing for her by looking into surgery.

She is 260 lbs and 5'3".
