For all of the parents and teens that saw the recent episode of "The Doctors" that focused on teenage weight loss surgery: this show was nothing but misinformation!!!

Teens don't HAVE to go to Mexico for surgery, including the lapband. There are select, highly skilled doctors that do it in the US. I am the patient coordinator for a practice of two board certified surgeons that fully support the decisions of parents and teens.

The show also cast weight loss surgery and patients in a negative light, noting that teens should "just try dieting" and that parents haven't exhausted all of their efforts. Of course patients and their parents have tried everything. Of course parents know this is a drastic step. What the show didn't cover is how brave the teenage patients and their parents are. It's a big decision to make. I applaud the parents and teens that realize this is a smart and proactive thing to do.

For any teens out there, we are putting together a page dedicated to teens only, and I would love your input on what would be helpful and interesting to include. You can contact me at
