Frustrated with my daughter's pediatrician

My daughter will be 5 years old next month and weighs 83 lbs. She is 46 inches tall, and is obviously a thick child. Her abdomen is so misshapen, I worry that there is something more to the story. Her pediatrician says she is simply overweight, and that we need to maintain her current weight and allow her to grow into it. She is a fraternal twin, and outweighs her twin sister by 30 pounds. They were born 6 weeks early, and she was 4 lbs, 14 oz. at birth. Currently, she looks 7 months pregnant. Honestly. She looks pregnant.

When she was about 10 months old, we took her to the ER for a suspected bowel obstruction. They told us she has a slow ileus( or ileum, not sure which is the correct term). She suffered from chronic constipation as an infant, and also had an umbilical hernia.

I guess my question is, would her misshapen abdomen be indicative of anything? I am wondering if she might have a metabolic disorder, and am having her bloodwork done, but her tummy really scares me.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I say take her to another doctor.

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

it does sound very concerning as she could have massive poop in there especially with a protruding belly. sounds like she needs some reglan to keep her moving properly. My 6 year old son only poops maybe once a week and when the doctor felt his belly he said theres alot of poop in there. He was only going 1 every 2 weeks! and now hes on miralax twice daily but it still doesnt help. I would most definatly take her even to a childrens ER

If I were you, I would find another doctor. If possible, an endocrinologist who specializes in children.  It sounds most suspicious because she outweighs her twin by so much.  It could just be weight, but most general practitioners, even those who specialize in pediatrics, often miss more obscure illnesses.  Trust your intuition!
