My big day is coming!

So, my surgery day is May 19th and I'm absolutely beside myself with excitement.  I don't really know how to work this site just yet, so I figured making a thread would be the easiest way to get in touch with people my age.  I'm getting the RNY Gastric Bypass in a couple weeks and I'm kind of nervous.. Does anyone know a young teenage person that's gotten this surgery? Were they successful? What kind of complications have/did they have?

Hey!! Congrats on your surgery date!!
I am 19 and I had Lap RNY in November (I was 18 at the time) I would say that I am a success story so far! I have lost 85lbs. The only complication that I had was that I had a little bleeding after surgery which caused me to have to to get 4 pints of blood, but nothing too big. Besides that, I have done and felt great. I do have to now get my gallbladder removed on Wednesday. I have had a few attacks, which was caused from rapid weight loss. But If you have any other questions let me know! Hope you have a wonderful day!!

What do you mean "attacks"? Like.. what kind of attacks?

Gallbladder attacks. My gallbladder started not working too good and with that it causes pain. Some got pretty bad, but it only had a few. Mine is only working like 30%. Not eveyone's gallbladder messes up so dont worry about that unless it happens.

Hey, congratulations to you! You're about a month out of surgery, and I know I didn't want to even think about sitting in my computer chair until about two months post, but I hope you'll see this sometime! I am eighteen, got my lap RNY about three months after I turned seventeen, so I'm a young one! Haha. Get ready for a whole new you, sweetie. A book I'd recommend to you is Before and After: Living and Eating Well After Weight-Loss Surgery by Susan Maria Leach. It seriously has become my WLS Bible! To help you out with products and support, keep coming here and I'd also recommend bariatriceating.com and beforeandafterhelp.com. There's a lot of support available out there, but as teens sometimes it can be confusing to try and get involved in our aftercare. But that's the only way this will work. Take chare, take control and HAVE FUN becoming a brand new you! Best of everything to you, Ashlee
