I need ideas to get my 13-yr-old exercising

My son loves Gameboy and computer games.  I need ideas that will get him exercising.  I have heard of something that requires exercise in order to run a tv or game.  But I don't know what it would be called or where to find it.  Please let me know if you have any information or ideas. My son has had surgeries on both feet in the past and he may need surgery again soon.  He can't walk or hike long distances without having foot pain because of this problem. Thank you in advance for all ideas and suggestions.

I know it sounds easier than done but its true. We have been working with a Children's Hospital with both of my children to help get the whole family healthier. My 14 1/2 year old has taken up running on her own. She runs between 1 -2 miles a day and in two months she has lost 4 inches off her waist. My son on the other hand is also a game lover and doesn't want to get moving. He however is enjoying golf ( in our front yard) We live in a big field on 52 acres. Anything the doctors says to get him out from in front of the TV or a game. Even if we clean up the yard, walk to dog, play frisbee, throw the ball, what ever. Because he has problem with his feet you may want to get you both a bike. Or a stationary one. Good Luck. Helping our kids is so important. They are the best thing we will ever do so we can't give up. We owe them the best in health.

We have an exercise bike.  I was thinking about bringing it downstairs into the family room when we rearrange it. I hope we can get him moving more soon.

Depending on the video game home systems you have, there is a series of games called Dance Dance Revolution that are a TUN of fun for all ages!! But, it might hurt his feet. Maybe just a little bit each day might work.

This is the first time I have heard of the Dance Dance Revolution.  What does it work with and where is it sold?

It works with Play Station 2, Play Station3, XBOX, XBOX 360, and Gamecube. It is sold at any stores that sell video games, like walmart, target, etc. You can find it online also.

We have a Gamecube.  I will check it out.

The one for Gamecube is called     Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix. It's soo much fun! Just start on the easy level, and work your way up.

I have Dance Dance Revolution and LOVE IT!!!! It's an amazing work out, i'm drenching sweat when im done cause it really gets you moving!  The best part.... you barely realize it because its a video game! Also, Im not sure if it's out yet.... but Wii gaming system is coming out with Wii Fit, another video game that keeps you moving!  hope this helped! Lara
