I'm 17 and I have my consultation for the lap band on wednesday.

I know that the questions I'm going to ask are meant for my doctor, but I'm just too anxious to wait.
Ok so for those of you that have had the Lap Band can you tell me how much weight you lost in about a week? I read somewhere that it was 1-2 pounds, but I was thinking that was just regular weight loss without the exercising. 1-2 pounds is just too small of a weight loss for me. I was thinking 5 pounds a week. I really would like to have my first perfect summer before college. How did you feel after the surgery? I had my Gallbladder removed and after I barely felt any pain, but these are two different surgeries. Thanks for your time

Realistically you should be losing about 2lbs a week.  I was banded in december and I have already lost 28lbs in 8 weeks.  My doctor has told me that I am doing good and that if I lose any quicker I could be looking at alot of loose skin.  You really should not care how much you have lost in a short amount of time but more that you are getting to your goal and the weight is coming off.  A lot of what you might not know is that the lap-band is just a tool, not a complete fix.  You will lose more weight the more you use your band wisely and make good choices.  You will also possibly gain weight if you dont.  As for the pain after surgery...I had my gallbladder out and I found the LapBand only slightly more painful.  I was out of bed comfortably within 3-4days and back to work in 5 days.  The only problem that you may notice is that your port area tends to stay sore for upwards of a month but it is not unbearable (atleast for me).  Any more questions feel free to pm me directly.  I will do my best to help you out.  You also might find going to the LapBand forum helpful too. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/a,messageboard/board_id,5359/

YAY! I’m happy for you, good luck! I was 18 when I had gastric bypass. I know the band and bypass are very different but I was shocked that it didn’t hurt more, I mean of course there is some pain but it wasn’t bad at all. I was up walking the night of my surgery! With the bypass I lost 12 pounds the 1st week. I'm 8 months out and I’ve lost 117.5 so far.  Feel free to contact me with any questions Jennifer

HI!  Currently I am 4 years out, and working my band again (I took 3 years off had a baby and nursed) and I am losing 2.5-4lbs a week, working out, eatting on plan...normally it is 2-3 lbs, it is slower, but the band is for life, and you didnt gain it all in a couple months, but over time.  By losing slowly your skin will react much better, and you will feel much better.
