Tiffany, Well I am also 18 and I had my RNY on November 20th. I have many health problems including POS too. If its something that you think you need I would look into it. I could never loose weight any other way, and my health was getting so bad I didn't have anything else I could do. I think its great that your mom has had it because you will know everything about it first hand. I would really talk to your mom and doctor about it. Good luck! I'm here if ya wanna chat or if you have any questions!

I know exactly how you feel.  I July of 05' my mom had the RNY.  I was excited for her because I knew this would be a great chance for her to lose her weight and get healthy for her family.  At the same time though I felt like the one thing we had in common was now gone.  She lost the weight so rapidly we no longer when shopping together and we didn't go out to eat anymore.  I became very depressed and I struggled alot with the decision on whether or not I should have the surgery and in the end I had to make sure that it had nothing to do with my mother.  You have to take the time to find who you are and make sure that you are ready for the surgery.  It is a very emotional journey and if you are not ready for it you may hurt yourself more in the long run.  I also took alot of time to pray about my decision.  I had the surgery about 6 months later and I am grateful for it everyday, however, there are going to be many new things that you will experience and it will be very difficult.  If you decide to have the surgery I wish you lots of luck and success.
