Hey, I just turned 18 at the end of May - they seemed to prolong my surgery until I turned 18 (Legal age .. Canada.. woohoo) But you should definetly start the journey now. Perhaps it will be different for you. I'm three weeks out, check out my page

How far are you from being 18? I've heard that a lot of insurance companies and even surgeons won't do anything until at least 18 unless absolute need be. Depending on your situation, anything is possible.

How long are you from being 18? I'm 17 at the moment, and have to wait until November just to go to seminars/consultation (6 months to get the process started). I should be able to get my surgery on my 18th b-day. It will take 4-6 months to get all the stuff done before surgery. Do you have insurance, or are you self pay? If you do have insurance call and ask if you need a supervised diet. That may hold you up when trying to get surgery at 18. Most SVD are 6 months long. So you man as well get a head start. RARELY, will they do surgery on someone that's under 18. My friend was an exception she was almost 600 lbs. at 17. They only operated on her because it was a "life or death" situtation. Good luck though!!

Good luck with your journey. I know it can be frustrating while you are waiting. I encourage you to continue pressuring your insurance company now, but be prepared for them to ask you to wait. Ask them if you need to wait to ask for approval until you are 18 or if you just have to wait for the actual surgery until you are 18. Then you can go through all of your pre-op stuff now, and just wait for the surgery until your birthday. But keep keep keep on them. The saying, the noisy wheel gets the oil...be the noisy wheel. The worst they could say is wait.
