Topic: My Journey Tat!
I had decided back when I started my WLS journey, that when I ..if I ever reached my -100lbs goal, I would get a tattoo.
Since JOURNEY is my life (see my profile, Im obsessed) and I adopted a mantra of "Dont Stop Believin" I decided that my tattoo should include my love for the band, the music and the belief that I can be healthier again!
So at the ripe ol age of 44 I took the plunge and got a beautiful tattoo of a winged scarab beetle (Journey's logo) which also means "rebirth" in Egyptian with the inscription of "Dont Stop Believin" below it. It took 3 hours and lots of ink...I LOVE IT!
My Tat guy is not done with it yet, he still has some purples & lavander shading to go around it and some darkening of the letters to finish up.
I get so many compliments on it when I wear a tanktop or a low neckline shirt. Im already thinking of what my 2nd tat is going to be...they're addicting!

Topic: RE: Should I wait?
Hello Ed,
I just wanted to put my two cents in here. I had a belly button tattoo before my gastric bypass and after I lost the weight, I decided to have a tummy tuck and the doctor had to take the tattoo when he did my t/t. This is just something to keep in mind. The one thing that I noticed though when I was loosing weight is that the tattoo got a little smaller but still looked great until it was taken off. I hated to lose the tattoo but having the tummy tuck made me feel a lot better. If I were you I would probably wait but that is just me. Good luck.

The retouched tat looks amazing. Make sure to stay on top of it as far as moisture goes! I personally use "nipple cream" (the stuff for lactating mothers) on all of my tats at night (it is full of vitamin E) and I use SPF80 on them whenever I go out of the house. Since I started doing that my ink looks so much better. My one on my should will have to be touched up in a few years but the one on my ankle looks like it was done yesterday (I started my nightly, treatment the week I got that one). Anyways, thanks for sharing!
Brightest Blessings for a Wonderful Day~

Topic: RE: Tattoos appearance after surgery
I have 13 tattoos. They are on my back, my arms, my legs. I've lost 84 pounds so far, and haven't really noticed a big difference. They haven't morphed or become anything scary! At most, they're just a little smaller - cause I'm a little smaller. I've got pictures out on my web page, and I'll be taking more tattoo pictures soon. Hope this helps!

I can only speak from my experience. I have 6 tattoos...4 on my back and one on each foot. The only difference I have seen has been in the one on the small of my back. I swear it has gotten a bit smaller and a bit darker. That is the only difference. Of course...you can expect some changes because the skin is changing. But since his are all on his chest/arms I don't really think there should be any problems. Good luck!

I was just wondering if anyone had tattoos before the surgery and what they looked like after the surgery. My husband has 8 all on his arms or chest and he is a little anxious about what they will look like after he has the surgery.
Topic: RE: Looking for a tattoo for lower back
Jeannie,
I just got my first tattoo on Decemeber 19th. To me, the whole process is very personal and took me a long time. I would really suggest finding a tattoo parlor first and going in and looking at the books of each artist (most reputable places don't mind if you come in and look , hang out and talk to the artist as long as they are not busy). Most artists will listen to exactly what you want and will even often to draw something up for you (usually for a small deposit that they will deduct when you actually get the work done.) Too bad you aren't in NJ , my guy is great and I will be going back to him soon ( so will my boyfriend).
Good luck and congrats on your WLS success. Be sure to post a pic when you get it.
