Topic: RE: Piercings and surgery?
Thanks for asking this question. Now I know I have to take my labret ring out when I get my surgery. I knew I probably would, but I hadn't bothered to ask yet.

Hi Becca,
After looking at what felt like a million images, I decided I wanted 3 things:
1. It had to be big enough (and wide enough) to cover my grody scar
2. I wanted lots of color
3. I wanted elements that were significant to me. In particular, these:
- I had a strange experience once when I fell asleep while writing in my journal. I woke up to find that I'd written 2 pages that I had no memory of. One part of it said that the message for me was the yin/yang symbol
- I love rocks, gems and jewelry making
So, what I have is ribbons of color surrounding cabochons of pale blue with the yin/yang symbol top center.
Thanks for asking

I have wanted a tattoo for a long time. I spent a good deal of time thinking about it, deciding what the image would be and asking many people with tattoos to recommend an artist. Last Friday, 3/7/08 I finally did it. It took 3 and 1/2 hours (not counting the two 15 minute breaks) to get it done. It's beautiful! I will post pics once it is healed.
Woo-hoo!

Topic: RE: Piercings and surgery?
I had to take everything (yes, I mean EVERYTHING) out before surgery...the nurse explained that it was because they don't want it to catch on anything, be aspirated, or be an obstruction if something goes wrong and they have to insert more tubes....it also harbors bacteria and is one more foreign object introduced into the sterile environment...
don't sweat it, after the surgery (less than 3 hours) you will be back in your room and can insert it right away
I made sure to bring some surgi-lube and alcohol wipes to get all my jewelry back in as soon as i got to my room...lol...my mom and husband brought it with them as soon as I was awake
(I even showed a clueless nurse how all the jewelry works for removal)...lol
....the discomfort is definitely worth it in the end!!!

Thanks for the welcomes everybody. I will get some pictures soon. I seriously have had no pictures taken and survive in many years. I am feeling that it is time to correct that.
